I recommend going with a proper wheel for chinchillas. They are quite a bit more expensive but plastic can be hazardous for chinchillas to ingest and plastic wheels are easily damaged by chinchillas because they are not built sturdily. A 15" metal wheel (such as the chin spin) is recommended.

I tried to find someone who had figured out a solution but the wheels just seem to be considered rather cheap with some design flaws no one can fix.  It's really not suited to chinchillas anyway.  They nearly always chew plastic eventually and it could kill them.  One of the basic rules is not to have anything plastic in the cage without a cover that blocks chewing.  Silver surfers are the cheapest metal hanging wheels but they don't fit all cages.  I found a relatively cheap flying saucer design from exotic nutrition that sits on the floor of the cage.  Flying saucers are considered easier on their backs and a more natural stride while running.  There are several better quality, quieter wheels for chins but they are pricy.

Here's the one I got for about $45CD. When I was looking at other members cage pics there was one with the same wheel mounted to there cage. The 15inch metal ones I can't find other then  online orders which in refusing do to (credit cards are evil)

In the US you can connect PayPal to a bank account and pay straight out of it online.  Most debit cards these days work as credit cards and again pay straight out of the bank.  I don't know how I'd live without online stores.  Pet stores are mostly over priced junk and things like the wheels I would leave my chins without and try to let them out of cage more than buy any.

Here are a couple of good ones:
http://www.tjschinchillasupplies.com/chinchilla%20cages.html

The flying saucer is a nice idea. It is true they are theoretically easier on the animal's posture but I have never heard of problems on upright wheels unless they are smaller than 15". I use a 14" wheel without any problems but my chinchilla weighs about 500g, anything much larger than that is not recommended for that smaller diameter.

fyi.. to everyone actually..

i was on the phone i with Quality Cage yesterday, all their prices are going up.  So if you want a chin spin [worth every penny], its best to order it now, according to Pam the prices will be raised next week [on everything]

Urgh. That was the first wheel I got for Popsicle. (or the same thing made from same factory in China but different Brandname retailer)

It is CRAP. Hard to mount properly, makes a TON of noise despite being claimed as silent, falls apart quickly, and made of plastic so chinchillas eat it and get sick.

Make your own Ikea wheel... cheapest option, and if made right it's best quality too, IMHO.

I'm hoping to return that wheel today since it doesn't look used yet.
