Hi everyone,

I am considering getting two chinchillas and was wondering what combo is the most likely to stay bonded, male/female, male/male, or female/female?

I'd go with male-male but you can have success either way. (I missed the male-female option when I responded. Thanks BLS chins for an appropriate response!)

Go with the same sex. Breeding isn't something to take lightly. Males or females makes no difference. I would go to a local breeder and meet the chins before you make up your mind

Thanks so much for the advice! I am thinking of going the male/male route. I definitely don't want to have to deal with babies and after doing some research found out that the females can spray you with urine. Is there any cons like that to owning males?

males and females will spray you with pee if they are scared.. just go really slowly with them and let them learn to trust you.. you won't look back after you buy them, They are so funny to watch going mental bouncing around and when they learn that you love them..they love to be tickled on their bellies and behind their ears..so cute!
Do alot of research into the person you buy them from as malocclusion is all too common with people who bred chinchilla's without researching the parents back grounds.. I learnt this the hard way after putting to sleep a 9 month old baby..then a 1.5 year old a few months later

It is true some males may try to spray in certain cases but it's not usual. Males are not built for spraying so it's more of a dribble. Females can aim well.
