Chinchilla eating fur?
« on: January 02, 2016, 10:12:28 PM »

I'm a new chin mommy, so this could be a very easy question.. Pika, my chin, was playing and climbing and fell, fur slipped, and then continued to eat the fur that had fell out from her fur slip. Is that normal?

Did your chinchilla consume a lot of the fur slip? He may well have just been sampling it as something new. I would be wary of the fact that your chinchilla slipped and fell. Was this in the cage, or during out of cage playtime. How old is your chinchilla?

Its normal that they will groom out the fur slips and chew on some of it. Its a natural instinct to not leave any traces behind for predators to find. How far did your chin fall?

The fall wasn't far, she just scared herself for the most part and she isn't showing any signs of being hurt. She's 8 months old.
