Euthanize :-(
« on: May 24, 2016, 02:28:27 PM »

I've previously posted regarding my Chin Jed. I have decided it to be more humane and dignified to have him put to sleep tomorrow :-( I'm devastated and wish there was some other option but I know it will only postpone the enevitable. I can email some pictures and if anyone could please just clarify I am making the right choice I would be forever grateful. My Fiance and I have out first child on the way and I really wanted Jed to meet our little one (as selfish as that sounds) :-( thank you all for reading.

No problem. If you have xrays that could help. Also what did the vet say about it?
I'm very sorry you're going through this. I had to put down my first chin.

I didn't bother getting the X-ray as the vet could see a spur through the initial check, I have already had him under anesthesia twice and didn't want him to go through it a 3Rd time. It's hard to find a vet who specifically deals with chinchillas here in the UK. Is it possible I could email you some images of him I took the other night and you tell me what you think as you seem to have a greater knowledge than me regarding this. Thank you in advance.

Yes you can e-mail me at admin@chinchillaclub.com. The fact is if you have confirmed tooth spurs by the vet you already have a sufficient diagnosis. I'm not a licensed vet but I'll take a look at them. If you can see it without a close exam under anesthesia it's pretty serious.

Not much to see there since the teeth aren't exposed. I'm noticing a lump on the lower left side of the mouth and guessing there is something going on there.
Anyway you have a positive diagnosis and I think you're pretty well informed going in. If you want to take it further you will need xrays and an exam by a qualified vet. If you go that route I fully expect you'll still have a diagnosis of malocclusion and you'll be faced with managing it. Tooth spurs mean malocclusion as the face of the opposite tooth is grinding unevenly.

It's not worth putting him through anymore as it's the same end result :-( thank you for your help.
