Discoloration in Chinchilla's Ear
« on: August 28, 2018, 08:47:57 AM »

Hey guys, I noticed my little guy has begun showing a slight discoloration on both the inside and outside of his ears.  I am unsure if this is something mild or something I should take him to the vet for, so any input would be greatly appreciated!

Note: I have pictures of the ears that I wanted to include for reference, though I cannot attach them for it would make the post too large.  Could I email you these pictures to get your opinion on the matter?  Thank you!

Are you sure the discolouration is not freckling that occurs naturally in certain mutations with age. What mutation is your chinchilla?

I was unsure on what mutation my little guy is, but I googled the different types and he looks most like a Homozygous Beige (very light beige-whiteish fur with red eyes).

It sounds like freckling, which is quite normal. Can you post pics?

I took 2 pictures, but I cannot upload them here because the file size is too big.  Is there a way around this or could I email you the pictures directly to ensure I don't need to take my little guy to the vet.

Thank you Flint!

Try cropping the picture first and then try reposting it.

Cropping it still did not work; the maximum size for a photo on this thread is only 600kb.

If you'd like you can send the picture to me and I'll process it for you. You can send it to admin@chinchillaclub.com.

Here are your photos. Doesn't look normal to me but I don't know what it is. Perhaps someone here has seen this before. My first guess would be some kind of abrasion. Monitor for changes. If it's something irritating your chinchilla could be rubbing it raw.
