Chinchillas near rabbits? Help!
« on: October 24, 2018, 06:51:17 PM »

Our chinchillas and rabbits are in the same room. They have separate cages and are on opposite sides of the room, but I'm still worried about pasturella... Their supplies are near each other and sometimes tough, and when i clean cages, I use the same scooper. Safety is my first concern, but I'm not sure if I need to move my chinchillas or not. Should I put them in a different room? Thanks and I appreciate any advice!

Yes, they need to be in totally separate rooms and quickly! You really cannot afford to take any chances. You should not be using the same equipment for both species. Both chin's and rabbit's items need to be totally separated, as with feed.

You can get the rabbit tested at a vet. This can give you peace of mind and you will be able to keep the chin and rabbit in the same room if the rabbit comes back negative. Obviously they would still need kept apart but the same room would be fine.
