Sun Seed brand
« on: January 17, 2007, 02:33:48 PM »

I was just looking around and saw that someone is sell sun seed  timothy hay. Has anyone on here tried it? I have been paying a lot for my hay because it has to be shipped. There is a store not far from me that sells the Sun Seed but I had never herd of anyone else using so I didn't get it. Just wanted to know if anyone else uses it.

I've never seen the hay, don't go to pet shops, but I wouldn't recommend anything else by Sun seed.
Take a good look and a good whiff before you buy.
If it's pounder and stalk or doesn't smell anything like hay, don't buy it.
Just my views. ;)

I have never seen the Sun Seed hay before but have seen the Sun Seed other stuff.  Not too fond of the brand and don't buy their products.  Does the hay have an expiration date on it?
Not that it matters a lot but just curious!  How is it packed in a plastic bag with air holes?

Are you sure that you can't buy hay cheaper online?  I buy Oxbow hay from chinchillas.com in a big huge bag and even with exchange and shipping to Canada, it's way way way cheaper than buying it from a pet store.  It lasts a long time if you store it properly.

Sun seed chinchilla food has bananas and raisins and some strange sunflower-like seed and animal fat in their pellets....I wouldn't buy their hay just on principal because of this.

::silly::If there are any horses (especially racing or show horses) in your area ... check with the owners and find out where they get their hay.  And what kind it is.

Hello, I am a new member which live in Hong Kong.
We also have sun seed timothy hay in HK, but the quality is very very bad.
Don't know whether is the problem on shipping or what else.
My 3 babies eat Oxbow timthoy.

::silly:: A few quotes from their web site:

::scaredspeachless:: "Chinchilla diet (Sun Seed Brand) contents: premium pellet based diet with chopped Timothy hay, banana, raisins, blueberries, apple, papaya, yucca (for odor control), and other treats added to this delicious formula."

"Supplementing their diet with a daily multi-vitamin in their food is recommended."

"Sun Seed offers cedar, pine, chlorophyll pine for small animals."

They list the chinchilla side by side with ferrets.
The amount of "study" (or lack of it) they put into their supplies for chinchillas is obvious to those of us who know what chinchillas really need.

    Their website scares me!   ::Hairraising::
