BUT, had I known then, what I know now, I would have never gotten the kittens. Distemper, feline pneumonia, is highly contagious ... if a chinchilla is exposed to it, they will usually die within 24 to 48 hours ... it can spread through your herd before you even know what is wrong.

My cat is an indoor cat, but good advice to give new owners. Let them decide.

I just wouldn't trust any cat, and especially mine,not to let instinct take over.
Yes I have some chins that would deffend themselves or at least spray. The cat hates that.
I have some that will chase the cat, and even a couple that will play with him, but always under my supervision.
He doesn't even get down stairs were the chins are.
Well ok a scattered time he sneaks, but heads for the store to hide in the furniture. The lights are not out very long when he's pawing at the door to get back up.
I have a couple of cages the cat could get his paws into, and although he's declawed he could still grab, nip or pinch one of the chins.I just shudder at the thoughts and wouldn't trust Mr Tiffany to roam free down there.
