But, then what would your babies do? We must protect ourselves to be able to continue to protect our loved ones.
It would be fantastic to live again, in the time I grew up.
We never locked our windows or doors, not even when we left on vacation.
We often slept with only the screen doors closed to keep the bugs out and let the cool breeze in.
Neighbors came by and hollered in the door ... "You, home?"
Followed by a "Come on in." From one of us.
If someone needed a ride ... stranger or not ...
It was freely given and appreciated greatly.
Now we have to lock our doors (home and car) no matter what time of day or night.
Alarm systems, big guard dogs (or a yappy alarm pom or poodle), gates and fences, even bars on windows in some places.
What world my grandchildren have been born into is a much different one than the one I knew.
If the areas away from our homes are no longer safe ... how long will in our homes be safe?
They are not, not even now. Our children have a whole new place to play ... the internet.
It can be even more dangerous than all our fears can imagine.
To be a parent today is one of the hardest jobs I could ever dream of having again.
I bow to all present day parents and wish you could have the past to raise your little one in, rather than today.
