Our little jumper

Ok, so we just got our chinchilla, Koda last night. I know hes not used to us, but hes VERY jumpy, spaz ish too. lol. So how long do you think this act will go on? Hes asleep on my lap right now, but when we hold him, he runs up my arms,or jums from one hand to my leg, couch, or whatever.  Is this normal?

Yes that is very normal. A lot of chins don't like to be held.

Yes some are never comfy, but you can condition them to tolerate it.
Use the base of the tail hold on them, slacking off the grip when they are calming down.
I find walking around helps, new rooms to keep them occupied.
If they feel like they are getting ready to jump tighten your grip, when they calm slacken off again.
Just keep doping this until you can let go and they won't jump.
Always remember as Stacy said some will never let you, but most will tolerate some handling if you condition them right.
Always reward them with kind words.

Our adult Cheech was not used to handling when we got her and we thought she would never like to be held, but what I've started doing is sitting on a bean bag outside her cage door and letting her run onto my lap, which she is always happy doing. Then I cuddle her to my chest. At first she was very scared and ran straight back into her cage but after a week or so she is starting to get used to it. So far I can hold her for a minute or two, hopefully it'll get longer. Picking her straight out of her cage or off the ground just scares her too much. Hope that's some help. :)
