One didn't make it!
« on: August 23, 2007, 07:35:28 PM »

My med ebony gave birth to twins yesterday, but the first was breech, and didn't make it.
It wasn't badly torn up just the tip of the tail and one foot was chomped. It looks like the kit died in the process.
It was a beautiful white ebony male .
The second a standard is doing great.
I'll post a pic in my album of the one that died.

So sorry to hear that you lost one of them, Debbie. It's always hard to lose newborn kits. I'm glad to hear that the standard is doing well, though...
Take care, Lori

Breech is so hard!  I'm sorry that Momma and you had to go through that.   :'(

I'm glad to hear that the other little one is doing well, though!   ::nod::

Thank you all.
Just wondering is that uncommon in a proven breeder.
This is her 3d litter and one was triplets, and she never had a hitch.
Why now?
Is it just one of those things and it may never happen again, or do I need to keep a close eye the next time.
I think I could have helped, but wasn't worry about this gal at all.

I haven't found that breech is something that can be predicted.  I've only had two breeches here (that I know of!) and I was able to assist with both.  As I said, those are the ones I KNOW were breech...  It's always possible there were others that the moms were able to deliver without my help and without any mutilation.  One of the breeches was with a second litter and the other was with the fourth litter.

Thanks, I won't give up on her than.
I would hate to put her through that again.
I know I could have helped, and maybe have saved the kit.
I'll sure keep a closer eye on her the next time.
I even gave her a long break, her last litter was Dec.06. I let her miss a whole season.
Using the rhythm method too.
Maybe that was too long??????
She a great Mom and I will try her again.
Thanks

I honestly don't think there is anything you can do to prevent a breech birth.  I know you can't with humans, so I don't know how it would be possible with animals.
