Title: Show question
Post by: BrightEyed on September 25, 2007, 06:48:19 PM
When you show an animal you use it's brand/year letter/# as it's 'ID'. What difference does it make if it is an animal you have purchased from another breeder? It will not have your brand name, but can you still enter it into a show to see what quality animal it is? Also- does a breeder get points for only the animals they produce or any animal they enter that is in their herd that may be from another breeder? I hope these questions aren't confusing  :blush2: I'd like to make sure I understand things correctly.

::silly::  Most shows require that the chinchilla is listed by the breeder and the owner, if different than the breeder.

If you did not breed it (it was not born to chinchillas you have), you can show it as the "owner", but, must also list the breeder of the chin as the "breeder".

Being a breeder of good chinchillas takes skill, time and patients.  To claim you breed one that you did not actually breed would be taking away from the actual breeder.

When you purchase/buy/adopt a chinchilla the title "breeder" does not go with it.

If you would like to show a chin as being the owner of it, you can, but, you would also list the breeder as the breeder of it.

Points, in sanctioned shows, are given only to the breeder for what he/she has accomplished in breeding the particular chinchilla ... anyone with enough money can be an owner.  ;)

That's what I figured but wasn't sure. Glad I know now.

It's good you can take them to have the judge give feedback and whatnot- and help out the breeder too if they would be able to earn points. That's the way it should be.

Thanks Jo Ann
