I've been bombarding you guys with health questions lately, but today I noticed that Pixel is a bit off balance. I checked all her legs to see if anything was funny, but didn't notice anything... I made her a vet appointment for tomorrow. There is an Exotics Specialist that visits my vet's office once a month, and she's there tomorrow!! :D PERFECT TIMING! lol If she's no good I'll take her to my regular, in case of emergency vet, but I've been wanting to check her out. Can't even remember her name, but yeah, anyway... Now that I'm completely off topic, I'll get back to what I was going to talk about... lol
When my dogs or I get ear infections we're always out of balance, falling over and even just tipping a little randomly (that's all I've noticed in Pixel). So what I wanted to know is... Do Chins get ear infections? How are they usually treated?

This should have been in health or QnA... Could someone move it? O.o
Go me!!

Yes chinchillas can get ear infections. Depending on the cause she might get a round of oral meds such as Baytril. If you do end up giving her oral antibiotics don't forget a probiotic such a yogurt between med doses.

yup chins do..
Just a ? for those who have been given an antibiotic for your chins: do the vets let you know the probiotic needs to be used in between? I know that it is something that needs to be done- I do it when I am on antibiotics.. but I was curious to know if they tell you- b/c I would think they should to look out for the safety of the animals they see.

Unfortunately many vets do not tell you. :-\

Agreed. Most vets do not tell you to use probiotics. I have had them tell me it's a good idea when I mention it to them, though. ::)
