Have you ever noticed that different chinchillas smell different? Cheech and Chong smell very different to each other. I wonder if it has something do do with breed and fur type...?

Chinchillas can and do send out puffs of smell when peed off ;D
Chinnnie farts, but as for each having it's own smell no, all mine smell alike. Or rather don't smell.
I get no odor from my chins unless they poof at me. Like when they don't want to get in or out,or
some of mine hate beng held by the tail as in grooming and will puff at me.If they are on the floor and I catch them by the tail I can even see whitish inners at their anus, and sure enough a poof.
Could this be what your smelling?
It doesn't linger long, but if one hates being handled you'd get this smell just for a sec. when you first pick him up.

I haven't noticed and of my chins smelling.. other then when they 'poof' ( ;D) as Debbie is talking about. It doesn't smell that bad.. its real short too. But when they do that it all smells the same.

I only mean when I give them a hug and my nose is right on their fur. They don't generally smell, I guess if they did that would mean I wasn't looking after them properly or they were ill. Cheech smells sort of dusty where as Chong is more, I dunno... musky. When I try them together they smell more, perhaps they're poofing at each other...
A pointless topic really, I was just curious. :)

Its funny because with how many chins I own people would never guess I own that many of them. I love chins because they arnt smelly animals. People are always shocked when they see how many chins I own and how it doesnt smell like animal rofl

Oh I know! The only time we noticed an odor was when the whole family came down with a stomach flu. It was difficult to go in and clean with a queasy stomach! :::grins:: I don't think I have come across the poofs. Is that something that most chins do? Maybe I just haven't noticed, but with a house full of boys, it would be found incredibly funny! :2funny:

I know that they aren't chinchillas, but my alpacas smell like popcorn. It is a really nice smell to go into the barn and smell popcorn. That and their hay smells good to.
