Title: grinding teeth
Post by: JandSchins on March 21, 2008, 02:57:07 PM
My female chin started to make this grinding noise with her teeth. She does it randomly, mostly when my male is around. She will also 'clank' them together.  Is this normal? Has anyone else ever noticed this?? Is there something I should do. I have checked her teeth, they dont seem to be overgrown and are a very normal yellow color.

It is most likely a warning sound. She obviously does not want that male near her if she is doing it mostly when he approaches. She's kind of saying, "back off". If they are housed together, you might want to seperate them.

Yea I'm thinking its a warning, and when she does it when hes not around, I'm sure shes just trying to grind her teeth down, cause my chinchilla does it to when hes to lazy to chew on anything.

I heard that grinding teeth meant they were happy/content?

actually she loves her male, Ty. they get along wonderfully and have been together for over a year. I dont think it is that. she just had a baby, 4 days ago, but still grinds her teeth.

im sure its not b/c of the male, for now they are separate to prevent back breeding.
