Title: Chinchilla Biology Project?
Post by: sweetalex52 on June 01, 2008, 04:32:44 PM
I have to come up with a project for my AP Biology class and was planning on making it into a video. I thought to make it a little interesting I could use my chinchilla as a test subject, but I am stumped as to what type of experiment I could do. I was thinking of a maze but it would have to be built up very high.  Any other ideas?

Maybe you could do a video about the sleeping patterns and how long they sleep at a stretch.  I know my chinchillas are like cats.  They sleep off and on during the day like little cat naps.  I'm (of course) not up at night to see exactly how they do, but a video camera would come in handy during the night time hours.

You could do an experiment on operant conditioning and train your chinchilla to do something, like a trick.  Maybe teach it to respond to a bell or some other noise, or to come to a particular spot when it's time for treats...something like that....
