I just let Dusty out for playtime for the first time in a month,(i know bad :'( but i had finals and then i went on vacation) And he mustve really gotten out of shape because he was probably out for 45 min and then when i put him back in he lied down on his side to sleep like a person and he usually sleeps sitting upright so he must have been pooped. at least im hoping thats all it is ::scaredspeachless::.
Does anyone elses chinchillas sleep in funny positions? pictures would be a bonus

Cheech is incredibly unfit. She usually only manages about 20 mins to half an hour out before she goes back into her cage and flops down for a nap. It's quite normal, but you don't want to tire him out too much, so just be careful his ears don't get too pink, that's one of the main signs. Chong would go for as long as I let him but I have to be careful because he shows no signs of being tired, ever, until I put him back in his cage and then he flops down. You know your chinchilla best. But lying down is also a sign of being comfortable in their surroundings. :)

My herd was always surprising me with their sleeping positions. Some on their side, some on the backs will all 4 legs sticking up in the air!! :D

I heard that them stretching out is a bad sign that they are over heated.

If they are over heated their ears will be all red. Normal, health chinchillas will find all sorts of weird sleeping positions! ::)

Though my Chinchilla was just recently pregnant, she has always had a thing for laying on her side. The first time I ever saw it I thought it was the most hilarious thing EVER! rofl
Just today though, she nursed her kits and then ran off and PLOPPED herself half on her side and half on her back...ha, it was so very random.
Her NEWEST thing though - her wooden hut is underneath of a ramp and she likes to stick her head out, look around, and then crawl on her back over the top and down the side of it! ;D SERIOUSLY! WHAT. IN. THE. WORLD!?!?
I call it her new trick because she seems awful proud of her flexibility!
My other Chinchilla Penny likes to come up to the front of the cage and do a weird little, jump-half-side-flip-THING??? and then she'll lay right on her side with her belly right up against the front of the cage door.
Their all nuts in my opinion
Here's a picture of Penny and Peekers when they were really young. Peekers is the White one and she was 6 months. Penny is the Standard and was 4 months. It was the first time I ever saw them cuddle.

Thank for sharing the picture :)

One of my chins was constantly stretching at one time, and we do know our chins, don't we? I knew she wasn't herself & that she was uncomfortable. I took her to my exceptional exotic vet. & sure enough, she had intestinal blockage!! He said they constantly stretch like that because they are trying to push the blockage down & out. I just love this guy. ::nod:: He is so good at taking care of my chinnies. ~JANE*
