Hi..
I think it is fine for a chinchilla to sleep on its side. I have several that do! I have to admit though that the first time I saw one sleeping on its side it scared me half to death. Now I think that the chinchillas are just very comfortable with their surroundings. They can stretch out and sleep peacefully.
I even have one female that just had kits and she sleeps on her back with her feet up in the air so the kits can nurse while she sleeps.

My chinchillas sleep on their side all the time. It scared me too at first but after reading other posts, I assume they are just really comfortable with their home.

When Chupers is asleep on his side he is very very very asleep LOL I know he is comfy.

A friend of mine gave me a pick of his chin that freaks him out a lot.
The first time he saw him he was sure he was a gonner. Give him a poke and he jumps up looking at you as if you took his treat from him. :D

OMG Janice that's hilarious :2funny:

Debbie...don't you just love the positions they can get into sometimes! I am always surprised when I go into the chin building during the day while they are sleeping!

Gonna be boring here, but I love it when mine just snuggle and use each others as pillows. Especially when mum uses one of the babies as a pillow. ::nod::

Me too me too ;D
Or when the squish themselves up against the cage, most of mine have plexie glass sides :D
Not to go off topic of sleeping sideways, but yes we've all been a little started at times, and very amused. ;D

Summer, Cheech used to sleep like that and she would fall off all the time and scare me half to death, especially when she was pregnant. I had to change her cage around three times because she kept on moving to a place where, if she fell, she would fall about two levels hitting everything on the way down. In later pregnancy she stopped and she hasn't done it since. She now shoves her head right in the corner of the cage, twists it round so that the top of her head is on the floor and flips her whole body around her to lie down. Then the babies jump on her. :::grins::
