Title: I'm new and have an important question....
Post by: KayEllBee on September 22, 2008, 07:01:33 PM
Well I've been thinking about getting a chinchilla, but I already have a pet reabbit and I was just wondering does anybody know if rabbits and chinchillas get along? Could I put them in the same cage and they both would be ok?

HI!

NO chins and rabbits can NOT be kept together.  Rabbits carry pastereulla and it can be deadly to chins.  They would have to be kept in SEPERATE cages/rooms.

Chins and rabbits don't mix... I didn't know that for a long time.

Maybe you can consider adopting/purchasing a same sex rabbit for a play mate.  If you have the extra room and cage, I would say go for it but chins are VERY addicting!  I've never had rabbits, so I don't know much about them.

Best of luck on whatever decision you make.

Also rabbits flick their feet a lot and that means they can kill a chinchilla by accident. If you want  chinchilla it's best to do a lot of research on them. They have to be kept indoors, I don't know where you keep your rabbit. :)

I love my bunny because he's big and cuddly, chinchillas are nothing like them, they don't often like to be cuddled, but they are a LOT more intelligent, they jump off the walls matrix style and they are very loving and nosey and get into everything and everywhere. :)

Along with rabbits, chinchillas are my favourite animals and I think everyone should have one if they know how to care for them. So do some reading and see what you think. ::silly::

well my rabbit is indoors so if i did get a chin it would also be inside. but thanks for letting me know that they shouldn't be kept together and i will for sure do lots of research before getting one. that is what i do before i get any type of pet.
