What exactly produces "extreme mosiacs" ?
-
extreme is just a way of saying heavily marked. there as no way to "get" one for sure. I have had a almost white female give me two heavily marked babies. That is all it is a mosaic or white eb with a lot of dark markings

Yes, some people call them extreme due to heavy markings. I have a cute girl, I don't call her extreme, just mosaic.
I think some people use that 'term' to make more $$ and think you are getting soemthing rare.
Someone was trying to sell me and 'extreme' mosaic and she was just gray and white.. my girl is more extreme than the one she has. I don't consider her extreme, just pretty :blush2:

I have an extreme standard, :2funny:
To produce heavily marked mosaics, you either:
a. breed a heavily marked mosaic to a standard that resists chromosome breaking and crossing over to produce a similar looking mosaic pattern (this is also a good way to have a uniform quality herd) or
b. breed a mosaic to a standard whose chromosomes cross over and get lucky

In the last year or so I have been focusing on my whites more. I have doubled what I have in breeding. Most breeders will tell you there is no way to increase the markings I agree you never know what you get. I have a white female that is all white no markings and her mosaic babies are usually heavily marked. People use extreme is a selling term there really is nothing genetically different than a regular mosaic.
Betty you chinchilla is lovely but I don't know that I would call her an extreme mosaic, the "extreme" mosaics in most people's view have more markings than white usually. I personally avoid the term as it really is just a selling gimick. Right up there with calling Beiges champaign to try to sell them.
