Title: Is she pregnant?!
Post by: toochax192 on November 05, 2009, 11:50:49 PM
Hello, I am a new chinchilla owner. I have been doing tons and tons of research but I still have some questions. My female chinchilla, Ula, has been rather big, but I do not know if she is pregnant. She lives with her male friend. She has been extra eager to eat food, and for the first time EVER, she chirped at me the other day when i put my hand towards her, which she never has done. She normally would always come up to the front of the cage to see me. She did let me take her out to play though. Her belly also feels a bit harder than normal. From you experienced people with pregnant chinchillas, do you think that she is pregnant?!
Thank you!

::silly::  Could be  ::)  then maybe again not  ::shrug::

#1  Please, do not press on or palpitate the tummy area, you could kill a kit, if there is one there.
#2  How much weight has she gained in the last month or so?
#3  Do you have pictures you could post of her taken recently and one taken maybe a two or three months ago?
#4  Have you seen any movement of the fur around her middle or sides when she has been setting still?
#5  How old is each of the pair of chins?
#6  Will she set quietly in your lap or hand?  If so, I can help you get a good idea if she is pregnant ... or at least far enough along that she could be due in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Male + Female = Babies. :::grins::
I would always assume she is pregnant if she's with a male and carry on accordingly. Best safe than sorry. ::nod::
