Title: Ferret Nation Cage, How to..?
Post by: LindyLu on November 17, 2009, 02:11:26 PM
I have a Ferret Nation Cage for my chin, Dewey. He likes it but tends to stay on one level most of the time. I think if I removed the center platform, and installed some wood ledges, he'd have more fun jumping around.
I am just not sure I CAN remove the center wiring/platform....is it possible? HOW do I do it? Will I need to unscrew most of the cage & then put it all back together again, or does it snap/pop out with a little trick?

help ferret nation owners!
Thanks!

I don't have that cage but i was thinking of getting it. I'd just mess with it and see if you can get it out. Or ask the place u got it from or petsmart. I'd think it would snap out. I hope that helped some.

I went ahead and unscrewed the sides and pulled it out. Now I just need my extra shelves to arrive! =)

Thats exciting. In the future you can make shelves. Its alot cheaper. Thats what i did. I made pine shelves. Plus its safe for them to chew on.

Well, I can have my Dad make shelves...which I will probably do next time. But he is busy building Christmas gifts at this point, and I do not do work working AT ALL.

You can pretty much reassemble that cage as you need to. When I had my ferrets my ferret nation was 3 stories (bolted to the wall for safely) without the rack underneath. Eventually I might do as you did and just take out the plastic and the wires and put in all pine. Did you leave your bottom floor without the tray or leave it in? Or did you just cover it up with something? I was thinking the spacing in the bars might be too big for the chins but I could be wrong. Also Obi-Wan is still little so it might not be too much for an adult chinchilla.

I haven't had this issue with my ferret nation cage yet.  My babies use the entire cage.  However, they have taken to peeing in one corner of the upper level and it can run down the side of the cage and onto the carpet.  Might remove mine for that reason.  Glad to know it can be done!!!
