Title: Had to separate my girls
Post by: cusunfireguy on December 09, 2009, 08:32:19 AM
I was really shocked last night that my big female who recently had babies has now rejected her BFF.  They were attached at the hip for so long.  Since she had her babies she has been on a mission to destroy my little Boomer.  I had no choice but to remove Boomer so no one got hurt, especially the babies.  Luckily, I have been talking with a nice lady in my area that has been wanting a young female.  Her current chinchilla is almost 19 years old.  Sad day for me!

::silly::  You are lucky there has been only a mild scuffle ... one female will often kill the kits of the other female.  The momma chin felt threatend by the other female chin that was her friend ... up until now.  Chinchillas have all the emotions humans have, including jealousy and being possessive.  There are some that have been successful keeping two or more females in a cage together with one or more of the females having a litter ... but ... that is the exception to the rule.  Most of the time it is best to have momma and her kits in a separate cage.
