O.k. so I know I was born a blonde, but help me out here....I have 2 chins....1 has no markings what-so-ever, white w/pink freckled ears (he was listed as a pink white on his pedigree) & 1 is mostly white w/alittle tan on his tail, 1 tan spot on his head, and speckles on his pink ears (he was listed as a pink white on his pedigree)....so are they both a pink white? or is the second a tan mosaic? or is there even a difference between a pink white and a tan mosaic?
-
They are both pink white. You get a pink white by breeding a white mosaic (white with possible gray spots, gray ears, black eyes) with a beige (pink to brown in color, red eyes, pink ears). The pink white baby will always have red eyes and pink ears. If it got more of the white mosaic it could be solid white. If it got more of the beige it could have beige spots. Some pink whites have very little beige, others could have very little white. Both should get freckles on their ears as they age.

I love the pink whites, and have been trying for one for years LOL
I had one but lost her many years ago. She was all white with red eyes & pink ears.I so want another one, I think they are beautiful.
Can we see pics of yours? I have never seen one with beige showing.

I'd love to see pictures too! I also added a few pictures to my gallery of chinchillas I have bred that showed the beige.

I had a female that delivered early and the kits ears were not fully developed. The Mom chewed the deformed ear lobes off.

Oh my goodness! Poor baby! Still really cute though.

::silly:: I have one too, Debbie ... :) ... he's a standard named Squirt. His mom and/or daddy chewed both ears off of him at 7 weeks old ... it must have been a trend at the time ... 2 other kits belonging to another other pair lost one ear each ... all within 2 weeks. Bill swears that they knew they were going to be up for adoption and the parents wanted to make sure no one would want them. :blush2:
The only problems I found with a chin with no ears is the "he/she is getting over heated" warning the veins in the ears provided, and the ears are much more likely to become infected and abscess than those who have the outer ear. Squirt's right ear has abscessed 5 or 6 times, but none on the left ear. I use the betadine solution and topical triple antibiotic each time and (Keep your fingers crossed) ... so far so good.

Yes Jo Ann, I lost his sister when recurring ear infections travelled to her brain. One of her canals wasn't fully opened so gunk would build up.A least twice a year she would get asevere infection, have to go on antibiotics and keep syringing the ear.
This guy is fine, his canals are fully open and he has never had a problem. They have it nice and cool here in Newfoundland ;)

Thanx for clearing it up ;)
