my Bambi has been sleeping sideway lately so im wondering if theres something wrong with him =[ he only does that before when hes tired of exercising, but lately he's been doing that a lot, he goes in the litter box and use the wall of it as pillow and sleep sideway, sometimes he just pass out and sleep like that for no reason, should i be worried? then today he gave me a temper tanrum and start eating his litter, but i took it out now, is eating 1 or 2 bite of litter that bad? or i need a trip to the vet?
Thanks,
Tiennie
P.S. sorry if u think i ask a lot of questions... =[ i just wanna make sure everything is perfect for bambi, i cant imagine something happen to him :( i did do research before i get him but i never knew theres so many little things like this

Laying on their sides is up to each chinchilla. All of mine do it especially my female. They did not however do this until I had them for a while and got more comfortable with their home. 99% of the time, this is totally normal.

He sounds pretty relaxed to me.
You mean he's chewing the shavings?
Not to worry they'll do that.

noo he ate the litter, cat litter :( i know im stupid for putting it there with the beddding

both my big boys do this but they've been here for a while and like Steven, i didn't notice it until they got used to my boyfriend and i. it just means hes comfortable and sleepy! as for the cat litter, is it scented or anything? i would just hope he didn't get too much and keep an eye on his poops but he should be okay.

lol ill never forget when my mom first saw Herby do this, she came in my room to tell me something, glanced at the cage where he'd passed out(and he looks completly dead when he does) she stopped mid sentence screamed jumped over me and my book bag(im tall shes short but i was on the floor) and ran over to his cage excaiming "HERBY ARE YOU OK? SARAH HE"S DEAD! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?!?!....o..nevermind....stinkin chinchilla" and walked out without telling me what she originally wanted to, lol one of the funniest things ive ever seen(my moms VERY expressive about her feelings and put alot into that exchange)

Haha Ingram has been known to sleep on his back like a dog. Boy did that freak me out the first time I saw it. He has lately gotten into sleeping with his body in his tunnel that is sitting on a shelf but will hang his head out of the tube and off the shelf. Crazy little things. ::silly::

one of my chin does this quite often, she has a specific spot as well. she also likes to sleep with her head hanging off the ledge or tube and just let her head hang mid-air ::shrug:: however, she looks so comfy and relaxed :)

Hi Tiennie,
sometimes he just pass out and sleep like that for no reason, should i be worried? then today he gave me a temper tanrum and start eating his litter, but i took it out now, is eating 1 or 2 bite of litter that bad? or i need a trip to the vet?
Is he "passing out" or just going to sleep?
Cat litter is not the best thing for him to be eating, it can cause some major problems. If it has odor controllers in it, it can cause problems even if he does not eat it. I find pine bedding to be the best. :)
They can get into some weird positions when they are sleeping and/or trying to get attention (getting attention is one of their favorite passtimes). Missy use to scare us to death laying on her back on top of her hut with her legs straight up and stiff as a board ... if we did not give her attention, she would remain in the same position, but she would also hang her head off the hut and give a loud scream ... that definitely got her the attention she wanted. :D

I think the funniest is watching them stretch and yawn. Our male lays on his side and the female lays on his head!

Why is there cat litter in the cage? ::shrug::
Sure they'll try to dust bath in that, and no I wouldn't think eating it would be very good for him.
Sleeping chins are priceless, a friend has one that stretches right out on the floor of his cage.
How many have I poked over the years to make sure they were still alive.
The look I'd get then :D

My Loki has recently started the whole "i'm dead" routine. It's so scary.. He'll lay on his side, legs sticking up in the air, butt half outside of his house. And when my husband or I get worried enough to see if he's still alive, he'll perk up and be all "oh hello! ::silly::" Punk.

One night Lucy came out for an extended play time and I guess because she is still a baby (barely 4 months) when we put her back into cage she was sitting up, leaning back against the cage and just kinda slumped down sound asleep. Of course, I was concerned, and yes, did the finger poke and then I got a dirty look ::tickedoff:: and her version of giving me the bird. Yes, I do believe that is what she is doing when she takes her little paw and swipes it across her nose in slow motion. Gotta love Lucy! :::grins::

haha mine do that nose thing after a dust bath, it's funny
