Bambi has been doing this for a very long time. Everyday he would turn his head around and eat his fur.He always do that when he pull out his penis to clean it, or cleaning his whiskers. I didn't worry much becuase i thought it was just 1 of his daily routine. But i just wanna make sure if he's just cleaning himself or that's a sign of fur chewing?
Thanks,
Tiennie

If he was fur chewing you would start seeing shorter patches of fur. If you don't then it is just regular grooming. :)

You will notice patches of fur missing. Here is a link of what it looks like, some is really bad.

They do this out of stress, boredom and hereditary.

I love those little videos ::nod::
Those are the main problems you could come across with owning chinchillas. Thankfully it is some what under control here in North America I think.
Most breeders do take care in not breeding certain traits.
Thanks for the link Courtney

his fur doesn't look as bad as those that fur chew, but it is not smooth either. there's some small spots with no fur. Do you know what i can i do to make him stop?? i put a lot of toys in his cage but he doesnt like them.

Fur chewing is very hard to stop once it beings, almost impossible. To be honest there really isen't much you can to for a fur chewer. :::(((
