Title: Turning the cage on its side
Post by: Hoppinchins on June 10, 2010, 09:21:24 AM
I had an idea last night that If i turned my cage on the side, it would be taller then longer and they could jump around more. I'm not sure if anyone has tried this or if it would be safe.

Just pay attention to the size of the wire  that would be on the new floor side.  If the chinchilla will be walking on the wire it needs to be 1/2 square opening.  Anything larger could cause injury.  If you do it post a picture.  :)

Ok, i will, and I thought about that, I was just going to have padded fleece on top of the wire so they shouldn't be able to feel the wire.

That sounds like a great plan.

Good idea!!!!   ;)  I would never have thought of that, they like to run, it makes sense.

Yes sounds good to me too.
I made a big tall cage that I turned on it's side after because they like more room to run and jump.
Instead of 5 levels they have 3 with more room for ramps and stairs.
What ever works  ;)

Yeah, i'm going to turn it on its side next time i clean their cage to see if it looks like it would really make a difference or not.

Yes they'll let you know what they like, or don't. ;)
