Title: Eyesight?
Post by: LC-SM on June 16, 2010, 05:22:39 PM
Just wondering, how good is a chinchillas eyesight? Cause i've noticed my two looking at something but it's like they have lazy eyes and they're not looking directly at something.

Any info?

they dont see as well in the light as they do in dark. mine have been out in the light and ran into walls before. Or maybe we just have some lazy-eyed chins. ;)

Lol, yeah now you mention it, my two have ran into my leg/foot when I let them out for a play, silly chinnies  :2funny:

Although, there was a guy who owned a chin called Tiki on YouTube and he posted that Tiki had passed away after running at full speed into his cage :(

Chinchillas will sleep with their eyes open so that is probably what you are seeing.  They also move by memory rather than eye sight.  This is why they will run into things when they are out playing.

Yes, since they are nocturnal they see better in the dark.

When I take my chins to the vets and go outside they try to hide, they hate bright light, they see much better in dim lighting and darkness.
