Our young Sir is growing by leaps and bounds :2funny:, and he is nursing just fine. But he also seems to be eating a lot of alfalfa and timothy hay (yes I give them both) and pellets, and he gnaws on the volcanic rock and alfalfa cubes almost as much as his Mommy! ::nod:: Is it normal for such a young kit to eat so much 'food' ? ::)

I have a 3 week old kit and he seems to chew stick, eat hay and oats, and drink from the water bottle. I have not seen him eat pellets yet but I'm sure he does, eating this is not uncommon but they still need to be with mom to nurse till 7-8 weeks old. They tend to copy whatever mom does.

Thanks for the quick and reassuring reply :::grins::. I got so many options to feed the little Mother, and he seems to eat them all...alfalfa, timothy, alfalfa cubes, volcanic rock, wooden chews, pellets, this little guy eats everything! And he is growing so fast! I really need to weigh him soon, to show how big he is. When he was born, he was not much bigger than my thumb, without counting his tail, but now he barely fits on one hand, HUGE! ::nod::
I love my little Chin - ese Babies! ::)

They will start nibbling in days. What you describe is normal

I know what you mean about them growing so fast, my little guy was only 45 grams and is 3 weeks and is already 100 grams.

is't it so cute to see such a little one nibbling on a pellet... ::nod::
-
I've seen them try hay on the day they were born ::nod::
But all will be trying with in the first week.
They seem to go to the hay first and pellets second.

This is very normal and very healthy. They will often mimic mom. It's cute when they start doing that. They do what mom does. ;)
