Title: Spacing between wires i inch?
Post by: Hoppinchins on July 24, 2010, 04:04:01 PM
Is a 1 inch spacing between wires to much for adult chinchillas? I found a big cage on ebay for $50, but thought that maybe there would be too much spacing in between. I guess i could always put cardbord around parts of the cage?

i think it's ok - my adults have 1in spaces and i've never had any problems. so i'd say, if you're not planning on having babies, you should be fine.

what i'd say though, i'd replace the shelves with untreated pine shelves - they look plastic. unless your chins have plastic shelves and you know they don't chew them.

I know i'd have to replace the shelves. Mine chew on EVERYTHING. They didn't when they were babies and i first got them, but they do now. Unforently they said its for pick up only and i don't live close to them.

yeah, I hope so, bc thats alot cheaper then buying them a new chin cage. I was thinking of building one to, but not sure how much/ really have the time for that right now.

nice job on the cage,

what do you have on the shelves to hand them, the ones that do not have the hanger bolts, its hard for me to see it.
