Title: Do chinchillas lose weight after birth?

My chinchilla gave birth 6 weeks ago. She doesn't like being held so we haven't been weighing her until recently. She's lost 22g in the past week. She's still eating and very active and otherwise seems fine. Is this normal?

Is she still nursing her kits, if so that takes alot out of them.  I would definately keep watch on her weight though.

She's still nursing. Today is the first day I've separated them for a few hours. I'm weighing her once a day to keep an eye. As long as she's eating and active she'll be okay though, right?

IThey do lose weight after birth just like people...the kits came out, the fluid came out and some resources are being depleated to feed the kits. She should go back to close to her pre-pregnancy weight
