Title: What's missing?
Post by: chinclub on May 20, 2006, 06:34:13 PM
I'm adding forums as I can remember them but I could use some help.  If there was a forum you enjoyed that I haven't added yet please request it here.

Maybe a few "sticky's" in the Health section. How to check for Hair Ring, Anatomy (maybe a link to a picture for male/female. :) That's all I can think of at the moment.
Maybe something about "What to look for when getting a chinchilla for the first time??" whether they are buying for a breeder/petstore. Whatever.
 Basic breeding tip, like dont breed chins with know genetic risks, or unknown backgrounds. :)

Jamie,
The replies don't reload do they?
We have to go back in to see a reply we just made?

I've noticed that too. As of right now I don't know how to fix it, but I'll look through the mods and see if there is a way to change it.

The question is how to automatically return to the thread
after posting, right? I want to make sure I've got it.

Here's the steps to do that...

-> Profile (at the top of the forum)
on the left hand column you'll see different links of the controls.

--> Look and Layout Preferences
one of the tabs under "Modify Profile"

---> the fifth checkbox down
it says "Return to topics after posting by default."

----> scroll to the bottom and click "Change Profile"

If that's what you wanted, hope it helps :)

Wow, that is a page I havn't been to before.  Thanks, Aaron.  That also answers my problem of why the Quick Reply Wasn't Working.  You have to turn it on there too.
I guess that is what comes with moving to a new type of forum...it will take us all time to find our way around.

You're welcome, Jamie.
There's a lot of new things I never knew existed here.

How do you set the time properly?
I've tried a few different ways and I cannot
for the life of me get it to my time zone.

::silly:: Hi!
 Just saying hello to everyone! ;)
Haven't been over the complete board/forum yet ... in the process of doing that now.   Would it be o.k. just to put some questions up (even if we know the answer) to get new threads started and interest going?

I'm going to some other parts of the forum and start adding questions that might be of intrest to chinchilla parents.  ::nod::

Title: Kids Forum?
Post by: chinsgrandma on June 26, 2006, 04:15:06 PM
Hi Joann & all,

I have been participating in the chats regarding my daughter's female ebony, Cheerio, and was wondering if young people are allowed to post on the boards or not?  If not, maybe we could start a separate forum for the kids to talk about their pets but also be able to ask questions regarding their care to the older/more experienced owners?  She has been intrigued by my participation in the board and I thought she would really enjoy it if she could join under her own name.  What do you think?

chinsgradma,
This is a really family friendly site, your daughter would be more than welcome to come here and learn! I love seeing kids who are interested in animals! :)

Great!  I will let her know, she'll be thrilled.  I am not sure what name she will choose yet, but she's 12, and I am sure she will pop up on here later today after she gets back from camp.

She had said since I was "chinsgrandma" that she should be cheeriosmom but I told her I couldn't quite deal with her being anyone's mom!!! :o

Thanks for the welcome mat!

Technical question - can a second person participate on the board, with a different name, from the same computer?  When my daughter logs onto the website under her own screen name the board comes up with my welcome message on top, so there is no option for her to register as her own user name.  Any suggestions?

If you look up at the top of this page, right under the Chinchilla Club logo there is a line of buttons.  The last button says logout.  If you click that it will allow her to register.

From now on you will just need to click that botton and let the other person login to change users.

Great thanks!  Here is my next question - she never received her activation email.  I suspect this is because she has parental controls on her account.  Can you tell me what email address the activation email would come from, so I can enter it in her address book and hopefully this will allow her mailbox to receive it?

That is a great question...Anyone remember??  I'm thinking it would be info@chinchillaclub.com but I'm not possitive.

Ok lets see if I can get this out right.
When I reply and go back to the main search board by hitting the back button, the list keeps changing.
All the new posts that came up the first time are gone, or is it just the ones I have already replied that won't come back  up?
Can we get " todays posts" ?
That make any sence?
We used to have both on the old forum, new posts & todays Posts.If I thought I missed something I could just go back after I posted. Or hit todays posts and see them all again.

I miss that too.  I'll have to check and see if I can figure out how to add it.

I just wanted to add that until I can find a way to add todays posts you can view the 10 most recent posts.  The link is near the bottom of the main page (under the stats I think)  Here is the direct link.

Title: Re: What's missing?
Post by: chinclub on June 29, 2006, 01:48:22 PM
OK,
I have added a 30 last Posts link to the top of the forum page.  Once you click on that it will show which ones  were posted today and it should have a "new" graphic beside the ones you havn't read yet.  I don't think our board ever gets more than 30 posts in a day, but if it does I can increase that number to whatever we need.  Hopefully this will help everyone in finding the newest replays and posts.  :)
Title: Re: What's missing?
Post by: chinclub on June 29, 2006, 01:50:56 PM
OHH, I am already loving that new feature.  I checked on the "new" graphic beside each one and there were several I had missed.  And I was right, as soon as you read one the "new" beside it goes away.  So everyone go click on the Last 30 posts link and see what you have missed.  :)

You don't seem many white around these days, some mosaics, not many pink whites.
These ebony whites are sure stealing the show. 8)

::silly::Hi Debbie,

    I love my pink whites!  We have a few, not as many as I would like, but you tend to get beiges from them if you're not careful.  :-[

    I like to pair them with a standard gray that came from a pink white ... odds seem to go up then for more pink white kits.   :::grins::

Jo Ann, Jamie made points/coins every time you make a post you get 8 coins every time you make a new topic you get 10 coins which you can spend in the store. you can give people coins and inventory means you can see what you bought.

Yes, we now have a forum store here: http://www.chinchillaclub.com/forum/index.php?action=shop where you can "spend" your credits for fun stuff.  I'm hoping to add some more things like chinchilla cursors, screen savers, advertsing on the website, screensavers, etc.

I would love to know how to change the time.  The time here in New Zealand at the moment is 11pm but our local time on this site reads 6am.  I'm never up that early in the morning but from what I have posted so far must indicate a very sad existence.  My postings seemed to have occurred in the very early hours.  By the way, my husband works in Guam so that's the only reason I am logged on at 11pm  :(!!

I"m looking into it.  We are quickly growing out of our web space and a section just for posting pictures will eat up a ton of space very fast!!!  I'm looking into some things that will help with that problem.

I don't know if anyone asked this or not, but can we have a forum for those of us who have chin-itus? Where we can post pictures and cute stories? I think that would be a good idea.
Title: Re: What's missing?
Post by: Jo Ann on September 14, 2006, 06:58:50 AM
::silly::Hi Lauren,
    I think all of us have "chin-itus" or are "chin-a-holics" or we wouldn't be here.  ::)
    I would think the general chat (about chinchillas) would be a good place for our cute stories ...it does not always have to be serious stuff we talk about.   We all love to share them, or at least I know I do ... very often, it brings a smile to a dull day.  :::grins::
    Pictures are in the "new born" sections and most anywhere we post and with the new photo albums for every one, we can change the pictures every-so-often.   ::nod::
    Am I getting all this right, Jamie?

Title: Re: What's missing?

Yep,
Start a Photo Album and fill it ip!! You can tell about all of your pictures in your album and then other people can come and leave comments, just like they would have in the regular forum, but this way all of your photos are linked right to your rofile.  No more trying to find a picture you know you posted months ago somehere on the board....  (ever done that, I hate that that hunt!)  Now you can go right to your album and all of your photos are right together!!

Chinchillas stories are welcome wherever they seem to most fit.  General Chin Chat is problaby a good place.  :)
