Hi, i have a friend that has a chin, who had an amputation at 3 mos of age and is now 2 years. he is quite the happy chin, i think he takes drugs..lol..
anyways, she always lets him out and he has no stress. then today she noticed a blad spot where his stump is...and is wondering why would he be doing this.. like i said, he's not stressed and comes out for fun, so why else would this happen.
her is a pic,
thanks

Hmmm I've been just asking myself why for the opposite reason.
My chin with an amputated tail has had to wear a cover/sock on her stump for almost 10 years now.If I didn't keep it cover she would chew at the stump.
Well a few nights ago I noticed her sock was off and hesitated to look. She had not touched it. ::) and has not yet.
Though that doesn't mean she won't tonight.
Could he be rubbing it off? Sitting or sleeping in a new position causing friction?
Is it cold to the touch?
Willow's is always freezing and when the fur started to grow back I guess itchy as well. She's chewed it that much hair doesn't grow on it any more.
After 10 years it has shrunk to the size of pencil and is still very cold.

i'll ask her..
how come you have to cover the stump?
thanks deb.

awww he is gorgeous! is it definitely him picking the fur? can he maybe have a bit of an infection? that would make fur fall out?
debbie, that is so weird she picks her tail stump! mae's missing one of her back legs just completely ignores it! she's had it since she came to me though so maybe she wasn't so happy about it to start with (it was a self amputation though)

she ended up going to the vet.. although she is letting him out, she changed playing places, and the vet said he's stressed, or mad....something like that... talk about tempermental!!

If I didn't keep it cover she would chew at the stump.
Either it gets cold or the fur growing back made it itchy are my best guesses.
