Title: How hot is too hot?

Now that the weather is getting warmer, we were wondering how warm the room can get before there is any danger. Its about 72 right now, all of the girls are acting as normal.  What are some ways we can keep them cool? How do we tell if they are in distress???

some say the temps should start around 65, some say around 55, but every one agrees on the high end, do not go over 75%, personally i don't go over around 72%, and also don't forget to take into account humidity. 

if you don't have an air conditioner up yet, you can put a fan on in the room, but make sure it does not blow onto the chinchilla, keep him out of direct sun light, give him a chin chiller, you can even put it in the frig to make it colder, and also you can put the dust in the frig before he takes a bath.  remember also that during playtime, since its hotter, he can over heat easier. 

you can tell if they are in distress by their ears, if they are red and you can see the veins, they are too hot, and you need to cool them down very quickly.

i'm not sure if there are other ways to tell, sorry.

some people use frozen veggie cans. stick a tin of beans or beansprouts (something dense) in the freezer, cover with fleece and make sure they cannot get to it or they'll get a frost bite. hammocky hammocks even do these cute can cosies :) i ordered some in panic when one day i came home to find the pipe at the back of the ac came loose and was blowing HOT air inside of the room rather than out of the window!!

I think 72 is ok so long as the humidity is not super high.  I would not go much over that though.  I think humidity is a big factor.

I thinks it for a total of 150, heat + humidity.
Some one correct me if I'm wrong.  :blush2:

why can the fan not blow on the chinhilla? mine runs away from it, but I dont know why ?

with anything blowing on them, fan, air conditioner..etc...they upper respitory infection.. i'm not sure if there are other dangeres... [thats it right guys... sorry... ] i'm pretty sure thats the reason... my brain doesnt' work well anymore, don't get old.. lol
