Hi everyone ;)
I got my chinchilla last week, its my first pet ever so I'm a newbie with pets. So far hes pretty good I guess, except he rarely sleeps; always very very active. I tried to give him his first dust bath on the 3rd day, but he only rolled in it twice and wont go back in. I give him the dust bath in my bath tub so I could clean up the mess easily. Today's the 6th day and I tried to give him another dust bath, but he only rolled in it once and keep coming back out even if I try to block the opening. He really doesn't seem to like taking the bath =S he just want to come out and explore the bath tub, but I don't want him to chew the sides of the tub it might be bad for him.
Any advices would be helpful, thanks A LOT :::grins::
Dust I use : Living World's Chinchilla Bath Dust (say's 100% Natural)

is it a kit? if it is, just give him some time, he will figure it out. this is normal for kits, from what i have seen.
as for the dust you use, i never heard of it before, so i can't say if its good or not. sorry :-\

If you're trying to force him into the bath or keep him there, he might be a bit scared of it. I had to throw out my old bath as it got holes in it. I tried to use their transport container. This is the container I use if I have to bring them anywhere e.g. vet or whatever and they hate it because I force them into it. My oldest female wouldn't bathe in it at all. She was terrified! As soon as I got a new bath, she was in there so fast though and loves the new one now.
Perhaps you could try a new container and let him get into it on his own?
I agree with what jmdebb said though, some kits can be slow to catch on to the sand bath idea.

i'm just wondering, is it a chinchilla bath placed in your bath or is it just sand in your bath? i find they like to have 'walls' - a bread tin works very well!

haha thanks and sorry for the lack of info guys.
Hes 1 years old and I put his dust bath box in the bath tub, its those plastic house thingy. :::grins::
Maybe i ll try to get him something new =S and let him go in it on his own, but it seems all he wants to chew my bathtub walls and run around in it -.-
Thanks alot for the info ;)

well in that case he may just be enjoying his playtime! :)

I'm new to chins too, but maybe putting him in the bathtub is too exciting and he wants to explore, why don't you try to put the bath house into his cage, and he might use it then. Then take it out of the cage afterwards so he doesn't use it as a toilet :)
