Title: squishy poop
Post by: lavt on February 16, 2012, 03:17:04 PM
I recently purchased a fancy female chinchilla (10 wks) from petsmart.
Since I've had her her poop has been squishy & it smells a little. I have a male but his poop is normal.
Her poop was the same way at petsmart before I purchased her. They said that they just got them in & she was starting to adjust to her new surroundings.
Is there a home remedy for the squishy poop? What should I do?

This could be a bad sign. Keep an eye on this and make sure it does not turn to diarrhea or constipation.
Stop feeding treats if you have been and just keep it to a minimum of pellets and hay. Make sure you are feeding the same kind of pellets and hay it was on before. You should plan a vet appointment if it doesn't resolve by tomorrow on its own. They probably should not have sold it to you like that.
Maybe someone with more experience can provide additional info here.

I stopped treats. I also was told as a home remedy to give her burnt toast to settle stomach for the squishy poop problem.
I hope the toast works, & the squishy poop was because of the transport to pet store & then home.
