We have been putting off buying a new cage for our single chinchila and after he destroyed his current (plastic) hideout we can no longer put it off. What is a good all metal cage that has levels and ladders included? The ferret nation cages look like the levels and ladders are plastic. Are there any out there thatre totally metal? I don't want to spend $400 on a "quality cage" though they look great it's not in my budget.
I appreciate a fast response.
Thanks..

These are all wire, although I didn't recommend wire shelves. I have found that chinchillas will pee on the shelves since they are not solid. It goes all down the wire, outside of the cage, and is really nasty.

Now I have one of these cages. I LOVE wooden shelves and highly recommend that. The only negative with these cages is the pan is very shallow and shavings go EVERYWHERE!!!!!

My favorite cages are here:
They will do custom orders and they ship greyhound bus so shipping really isn't bad at all.

I really appreciate the prompt reply. Thank you. I'm wondering however ,why you have the second cage link you posted but recommend the last link. Why would you recommend the one you don't personally use? Just curious.
Many thanks again

Because people like different things. I thought I would give you several options that were out there. They are all safe for chinchillas so its just your own personal preference. You asked for all wire and the second link has a lot less wood than the last one.
By the way, I don't use any of them since I use breeder cages. I have the middle one because it came in with a rescue.

Got it. Thanks so much. I really appreciate the help.

If you look at what this cage comes with, it is not a bad deal for the price.

Their stuff is really high quality. It will last you forever, and there is like no way the little darlings can escape :) or chew through it, and the shelves are replaceable. If you keep enough chew stuff in the cage, your guy probably won't even chew the shelves and youll havem for a long time. If he happens to pee on it, a mixture of vinegar and water will take it right out.
This cage is plain and only in the 200's.

The investment is worth it, i think, instead of going throug a bunch of different cheaper ones in a chins life time.

In my time on the forum I have seen people debate that particular cage. They say is is good for thed money, but it still has plastic shelves.
A matter of fact, there is another thread by a member a few posts down from yours, they debated on getting one of those cages, but went with a quality cage company one.

Oooooohhhh, we don't want plastic. We went on an overnight vacation and found about the equivalent of two ounces of chewed plastic on the cage floor upon returning :(

Oh man, well its good he is alright.
Try to avoid hammocks that have string or rope that attach them to the top of the cage too. This cage comes with one of those. If you want a nice hammock checkout www.tjschinchillasupplies.com if you have not visited jean's site yet, I am sure you will be able to find some new fun goodies and toys for your little guy.

I adore her site. I'm still trying to get my dad to buy everything from there lol.
In our current cage, Nickers has a hammock, but he hates sitting in it. He chews it rarely, but often uses it as a pillow or a place to hide behind.
-
My boys love to hide behind it, ill have one sitting ontop of it, one in it and two behind it lol (it is a hide-away hammock so it has potential for top and inside sitting).
I love Jeans stuff :)
