I have a 4 month old chinchilla, who found his way on top of my counter to the jackpot of dried rose petals that have been sitting in a large basket for months (I planned to make potpourri out of them, but never got around to it). He ate a little bit of one petal before I took it away from him. I'm sure the little bit he ate won't hurt him if it IS bad, but I was wondering if it actually is alright for them? I know you can feed them rose hips, but are rose petals safe?
Also, I know it's not best to feed chinchilla's under 5 months any treats, although I'm dying to teach my little Pippin some tricks! Would it be alright since he's almost that age?
Thanks! :)

When will he be 5 months?
Also, would you like a list of safe treats? I'm sure we can all put one together here.

He just turned 4 months. He'll be 5 months Jan 2. A list of safe treats would be great, thanks! :)

oats (steel- cut or rolled)
dried apples
freeze- dried raspberries, bananas, and strawberries
dried basil
lavender
chamomile
bagel bites
that's all that is coming to mind right now! My chin won't eat lavender, which is available from TJ's Chinchilla Supplies. I highly recommend her site; all of the things on it are safe, well - priced, and chins LOVE them! Good luck! Anyway, what is your chinchilla's name? :)

Thanks a lot! My chinchilla's names are Merry and Pippin. Pippin is the sneaky little one who found the petals. :)
