We live in an old apartment and when I let him out he finds the parts of paint that are peeling and he chews on it O.O

If your apartment is really old the paint is most likely lead-based which is just as bad for chinchillas as it is for human children. You could visit your local appliance store and get some large refrigerator or stove boxes. Turn these into your playroom or use them to line the walls of the room he plays in. (a small room like the bathroom might be easier to cover) Between play times you can store them under a bed.

That's what I was worried about but I don't know if I can line all of the walls and I want to give him enough room to run and our bathroom is tiny! I might try it next weekend and for now keep an eye on him

get a dog run and set it up around your play area so he can't eat the paint. That's what I do! :)

Better to have a smaller play area than a sick chinchilla. :)

That was my logic :)
