When I wish to get our chin an exercise wheel or saucer...still trying to decide which one will be best for our chin...But I told my son he could pick out anything appropriate...we both want an exercise wheel for him. If they had the right size and appropriate one there I would have purchased it...

I seem to swear by this place but it is where I bought my wheel and it is great! I bought mine at Quality Cage Co. Here is the link:http://qualitycage.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=129_142_143_144       I would go with the 15" for chinchillas grow and it is better to buy wheel that he wil grow into rather than out of.

Thanks that is conclusive with the feedback i am getting with my breeder. Now is there any way, method, or technique to make it so that it is less likely for my female to get pregnant? I want to purchase a female but I am conserned about breeding.

I would just forget about what she said because people at pet stores generally have no idea what they are talking about. If you got your chin from a respected breeder then you have nothing to worry about. Also last time I checked, you cant get a chinchilla at a PUPPY mill

For my new incoming chin, I am going to use the slow introduction technique of putting two cages side-by-side. I had an idea that I would place my older male (who I have had for 6 years) in a new bigger cage and then place my young female chin in my older male's previous cage. I will clean the cage completely before i try this but I figured with the new female chin living in an environment where my older chins scent is present would help the introduction process.

Hoppinchins regarding your cage I would suggest buying a cage from this site:http://www.qualitycage.com/ These cages are really well built, sturdy, and of high quality. I have had my cage from them for 5 years now and I still love it. I just decided about a week ago that it was time for a new cage(not because my previous one had worn down, just because I figured it was time for an expansion) so I went ahead and ordered from quality cage co. again for they make really wonderful cages. Their chinchilla cages are mesh wire cages with wooden shelves and a slide out tray. I would recommend the townhome size for your chins. Although when looking at their cages keep in mind that they dont just make chinchilla cages, so be sure your looking at the right kind of cage I hope this helps! oh and they are a little pricey but they are well worth it.

Q & A / Should I spay my new female or neuter my older male?

I am going to get a new baby female chinchilla in the next few weeks to keep company with my male chinchilla. I found that female and male chinchillas get along best but this raises the question about which one I should have fixed. I know that it would be easier to neuter the male compared to spaying the incoming female, although I can't help but think it would be easier on a younger chin rather than my older male. Also, would it be more expensive to neuter a female and would there be a higher chance of infection in a female? Lastly would my breeder I am purchasing the chinchilla from be able to spay the female before I pick her up?

Well I have been doing as much research as I can to find the best method to introduce two chins. I know it will be a slow process but I hope it works. I have decided to go with a young female because it is said that opposite sexes of chinchillas tend to get along better. Wish me luck!

I decided to upgrade my chinchilla cage by buying a bigger cage from Quality Cage Co and then attaching them together. However, now I have the dilemma of where to put my new makeshift cage for it won't fit where it is now. Currently my chinchilla cage is in the family room where things sometimes get noisy and busy. I thought a better solution would be to place my chinchilla in the basement with his new cage. Although I wasn't sure if this was a good idea. Eventhough it would be quieter, cooler, less busy and less drafty, I am concerned about light and if he will get lonely. There are two small windows in my basement that provide minimal light and between me and my brother we spend a decent amount of time down there. Would this be adequate?
