hello all, I am new to the club and new to owning chinchillas. I got my first two about 6 months ago and fell in love, since then I have taken in another, however one of my older ones is pushing him around so I am on the search again for a mate for him. I am 23 and Im a 911 dispatcher. I think this club is the greatest thing ever! All of my questions have been answered wonderfully thanks so much everyone! I also own a Iguana, a gecko and 2 tarantulas :-)

Cages / Re: Need a New Cage
« on: June 24, 2008, 05:48:27 PM »
i use the ferret nation cages. tray bottoms that pull out are so easy to clean! and the doors open up the whole width of the cage. you can get a single unit. a double unit or a add on. i have a double unit with a add on. it is over 7 feet tall. You can also clip the ramps up to close off a section. Me male is separate from my females right now. The cage is kinda pricey but it is worth it and really easy to put together.

Q & A / my scruffy chin
« on: June 23, 2008, 11:12:52 PM »
i have a new edition to the family. a very sweet black velvet male. hes a year old. i am his second owner. when he was young he had a accident with his wire bottom cage and is now missing a foot. this is no way has changed his temperament at all. he is very sweet and can hop just as fast as any other chinny. However he is kinda scruffy looking. he is a velvet and he is no where near as soft as my standards. his old cage mate kinda beat up on him. thats why the lady gave him to me. so i am thinking maybe now that he is out of that cage his fur will start to look better. is there anything i can do to help the process out???? he just looks so scruffy. kinda like a fighter chin with his missing paw and kinda chewed up ear. haha

Q & A / intoducing my chins
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:53:22 PM »
I am in a odd situation. I have been looking everywhere for a ebony chin. I have nothing special I'm mind. Male/female it did not matter to me. I already own 2 standard females who get along great. Well in my search to find one i got in contact with this lady who had one and lives not far from me. I also found this couple who was trying to get rid of their standard male and yes i could not say no. So now i am getting two males from two different people. I have two other cages to quartine them. However my questions is should i introduce my two males to eachother first? or should i introduce one male at a time to my females? i pick the ebony up 2mar! I'm so excited!

« on: June 22, 2008, 09:28:07 PM »
i was in a pet store the other day too and sleeping inside their dust bath (i hate how pet stores LEAVE the dust baths in the cages all the time) was 3 little chinnys 1 standard and 2 beige. I asked the girl working the in rodent section if they were male or female just being nosy and she goes "hold on let me check" and looks inside cage at them sleeping didnt even touch them and goes "there all males" i could not believe it. and i left.  :flames:
