ok im sorry for the late reply.. the vet went alright although burrito did not enjoy the vet handling him lol. he thought it was a G.I problem and gave me some meds and thank god they are working.  hes feeling much better and you can tell.  he said that sometimes their gi just slows down and will eventually shut down and gave me two meds and some food that i feed him through a syringe thing. i think ig ot a reasonable bill also, 71 dollars, especially for an exotic vet... hes doing very well now though and im so glad.

« on: July 02, 2009, 07:02:10 PM »
oh and the reason id idnt want a saucer is because they are always more expencive than the normal wheels.. I plan on getting him a extra large cage soon and possibly after that I will save up for a saucer. thanks for the help though guys.

It did add up to less than 100$ because the first one came with him.  Today i got my 16" wheel off of ebay for 42$ and he loves it!  He is having a blast with it im super happy.  I want to put a pic of him going crazy on it soon :}

Q & A / wheel help??
« on: June 02, 2009, 02:10:06 AM »
I've been searching for a bigger wheel for my chinchilla because i had to get a substitute wheel for his last one that he broke, but this one is too small.  im looking for a 15 inch metal wheel, not a saucer, and all i can find is wheels for like 100$! im not sure what to do, im not rich and cant afford a 100$ wheel.  i was hoping they would be a max of 40 but i guess not.  does any one have any suggestions on some websites of cheap wheels??? ive tried looking every where :[

Q & A / Re: Please help me with new chin owner trouble!

thats exactly what i figured, i thought it was amazing how he went to the places he knows i use to chase him away from, stopped, and just starred at me.  at one point i was even stretched out on the floor and he ran up and jumped on my head and ran around me... as if to say, "HEY IM OVER HERE!!"  its crazy how smart these little critters are.

Q & A / Re: Please help me with new chin owner trouble!

I had this trouble with my chin in the begining too.... the other day after much reading i had decided to let him out to play and instead of trying frantically to keep him from jumping on my bed or hiding in little spaces that id idnt want him in, i simply let him out and basically ignored him.. I come to the belief that he wanted me to get him in trouble.  he kept going to the usual "no no" places in the room and would stop and look at me.  I ignored him and read a book.  He ran up and jumped on me, this is when i was really convinced he was trying to get in trouble and was confused as to why i wasnt scolding him lol.  After he got the point that i wasn't going to care he came down and sat with me as i read my book and part of the time sat on my shoulder.. even took a nibble from the pages.  he also went into his cage willingly without any persuasion or bribery. i figure he just needed to get his exploration out of the way to calm down because no matter how many times i tried to keep him away from those places he would find his way with his little ninja moves.

Breeding 101 / some general questions
« on: May 03, 2009, 04:51:03 PM »
I have a male two year old chinchilla and some friends were thinking about sometime in the future getting a female and trying out breeding.  I am very hesitant because I have read in the book that came with my chinchilla that if there is a runt the mother will bite its neck to see if it survives.  I don't think i could handle losing a baby that.  Does this happen often?? also my male when he was a little one had his front fingers chewed off by his father.  If he was ever around the babies is it very likely that he would do the same to them??  thanks

Q & A / kind of a weird question...
« on: April 09, 2009, 06:01:00 PM »
I've had my chinchilla Burrito for about a month or so now and i noticed when he is outside of his cage playing he loves to jump on soft stuff like my blankets... well one time he was jumping on my blankets and sort of "needing" them like a cat followed by some guinee pig sort of noises which im guessing was a happy noise... then i smelled urine.  im wondering if they mark their territorys? This has happened multiple times to random soft objects. someone suggested to me that maybe he was "doing the dirty" to it but i didnt see any sort of thrusting.  if anyone has had a similar experiance pelase let me know im not sure if he is just a happy peeing chinchilla or if he is trying to kill my blankets lol.  it only seems to happen when he is needing on a blanket or a teddy bear.
