Q & A / Where to put my cage?
« on: April 15, 2009, 07:05:19 PM »
Is it better to put the cage in the open on top of my dresser or in the closet?

Q & A / Re: Can't find where chinchilla is peeing
« on: April 15, 2009, 06:20:25 PM »
Our chinchilla prefers backing up to a corner and peein'...Once it drys it's sort of hard to locate. Do you have any hammocks or anything like that in your cage? I know I've heard that they'll sometimes pee on them. Then you wouldn't notice a spot on the bedding I would gather if they are choosing that spot verses. What's your cage like...could she be peeing someplace other than her bedding is what I'm wondering...if it's on something you'll notice the dried area of urine. I noticed our chin was peein' in his empty dust bath house. So out it came...since I don't wish him to think that's his bathroom area...and I'm trying the litter training technique found on the magazine area of the site. So far...knock on wood...he's been using his litter box...he's young so that is also in my favor.
He has a hammock and 4 ledges not counting the ground, and the bedding im using is supposed to swell up when it gets wet, how often does your chin pee? and could you maybe share with me that potty training trick if it works

I am not sure of the rules...I know you need a membership for that area of the forum...Not sure if I'm allowed to post the information I gained there or not...Something I would have to ask a moderator. Though it's only $10 a year...and the info I've gotten so far was a great read. And like I said...I see our chinchilla using the litter box. He's 8 weeks old. The younger the easier it is it stated to train. But as soon as I offered it to him...after preping the area...Wa~La...he's used it ever since. No pee areas elsewhere.

Hm-mm not sure he could be peein' in his hammock. You would see it on the ledges...
Is 4 months young enough to train?

Q & A / Re: wheel verses flying saucer
« on: April 15, 2009, 03:17:52 PM »
OK...watched some youtube videos and they do in fact have them attached to bar like cages...so I'm leaning toward one of those...Thanks for the link... ;)  But I keep watching them fly off...the chins must be new to the things...
Well acctually i nvr though about this, my chin is 4 months, she looks almost full size and runs fine is a 12 inch, but with the flying suacer it takes up more space, if it doesnt attach to cage they fall apart, and with the chin falling of, when they stop i would think it would throw almost any chin off

« on: April 14, 2009, 08:34:35 PM »
Well i just transfered her to her new cage yesterday and when you try to pet her she runs and when she is in a certain spot she will squeel when you try and pet her, does she just need to adapt?

Sorry for so many questions lately

Have you thought to purchasing online? I didn't see a mention of a Chin Wheel...That might be an option...but nothing smaller than 15 inches...they sell 12 inches at the Petsmart near us. They will tell you it's meant for a chinchilla. But it's been said by many that they are wrong. [which doesn't surprise me]

Is there any way you can post a picture of the cage and set up...Also what's the temps your keeping her in. Is there a room thermometer in there to know the acurate temp of the room shes in? Is the hay ball thing new as well?

NVm the picture size is to big

Q & A / Chinchilla acting odd
« on: April 14, 2009, 02:48:16 PM »
Well lately my chinchilla has not been going into her little hide out, i bought her a new one and she goes in there, but when she is not in there she lays out stretched against the wires of the cage. Could something bee wrong with the home because she used to go in but not anymore? Also i have a little ball you fill with hay and hang from the roof and she just yanks out and throws it on the ground....
