General Chat / Chinchilla pet gate

I need a pet gate that is tall enough for a chinchilla not to be able to easily jump over or climb IE preferably vertical bars or fine mesh and that is metal. We've been using a card table to block Loki off from our family room, but obviously that is not ideal because he strongly desires to chew on it. the space is larger than a standard door, and there is no good place to install a real door anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions for what kind of gate can be used, or any other ideas to block off the area during playtime?

Loki likes me to follow them/chase him around too because then he KNOWS I am paying attention to him. Unless he knows I am coming to grab him to put him back in his cage, it's a game to him. Even then I don't think the "chase" has affected our long term relationship.

My Loki has recently started the whole "i'm dead" routine. It's so scary.. He'll lay on his side, legs sticking up in the air, butt half outside of his house. And when my husband or I get worried enough to see if he's still alive, he'll perk up and be all "oh hello!

I've never tried it, but you can probably wrap the jar in fleece or make a sleeve for it so it is still cool but the clothe would absorb most of the moisture. otherwise I doubt the amount of water from sweating would affect them much...

Health / Excessive Chewing?

I know chinchillas chew and some chew more than others and whatnot, but my Loki is absolutely insatiable. When I let him out of his cage he chews on EVERYTHING... and when I shoo him away from one thing he will run over to chew something else. 
Sometimes I actually have to pull him off of things. It doesn't matter how much I try to startle him or yell at him, or praise him when he is good. He is psycho.
My other chinchilla doesn't chew on things really and my late Hermes would chew but I think it was because he was in pain... and even then it wasn't to this degree!
I'm not so worried about my baseboards as I am for him... Is this normal behavior or might there be something wrong? (poop, urine and eating habits seem to be in check)

I'm sorry for your loss. My Hermes died from complications from a surgery to remove bladder stones a few months ago. I still miss his fuzzy little butt.
