So I went to pick up the new babies and to my suprise, they were in good cages, but where standing in 2 inches of poo, piss, and mold mixed with the timothy hay they were eating and aspen bedding. No food bowls, it was thrown on the ground. Black mold in the water glass bottles. and piss, literally, covered the cages. and left in a garage in 48 degree weather. They weren't too friendly when i picked them up. very suprised they were even alive after all of that.

I was even more shocked when I realized how the colour morphs. 1 Mosaic, 2 Hetero Beige, 2 Standard Gray(one seems to be pregnant ), and 1 Violet(pics will come, once i have them up to standard). I just cannot believe that someone who knows me, and knows how I am with these little ones, had them in this condition. So far I have improved EVERYTHING up to about 90% with the exception being vet visits, and a few more toys ::silly::.

My girlfriend was holding the violet, who was housed with the standard gray's, when she realized that there is a huge gash behind his head, there is no blood in the freshly bleached and cleaned cages, so i am assuming this happened before I got them(perhaps a fight over food?) I will be holding on to some money and make it a priority that this little one sees the vet first ASAP!

I just don't get it. If you can't handle it, just don't get the chins in the first place. Needless to say, I gave her an ear-full and hung up on her after I found that sore on the violet... I tried to keep my mouth shut until that point. :flames:

I would never pick any of mine up to move them out. I would just open the cage. After a few weeks of this, they ran out as soon as it opened, I would lay a treat per Chin (raisin) in the middle of the small room and they knew to come get the treats. I always tried not to pick them up much. But I have heard of the raisin in the hand trick, just put a raisin in your hand and the chin will eat it, then over time of doing this, move the raisin closer and closer to your body. The chin will climb onto your arm to get the raisin, but will run back really fast. An extra thing I've heard is to do this with an oat. It takes longer to chew than a raisin and will get them more comfortable being on you for more than 2 seconds. Hope I helped! It's been a while!!!

Thank you! It's good to be back! I have also joined in the Herp community and Currently own a few large constrictors as well, but I'm glad I can have Chins in my room and keep it cool again, and move the snakes into a reptile room. lol. Also glad my girlfriend is allowing me to have so many scalies and furies! I do love my snakes so so much! And now I get to return to my first love! I came back to finish school. I am now a Biology major at Ole Miss! I plan to work in a zoo, someday!

I hope to talk to everyone soon and see how the little ones are!

So, it has been almost 2 years since I had to sell my 3 chinnies: Dorian, Pepper, and Jasper. I moved around the country for a while and decided to stop back home and set up again.
To my suprise, a friend is selling her 6 Chins(one of which, is possibly pregnant), and 5 cages(one being a 3 level ferret nation), and the best part! ALL FOR $100!
I am picking them up tomorrow night and will rejoining the wonderful world of Chins! I'm most excite about the white chin!!(Well, mostly white, it has black ears and a black tail!)
Just wanted to say hey to everyone!!

My gf and I are moving across the country and we can't take our 3 chins with us. ::cry222:::
We live near Memphis, TN.
I am looking to rehome them and the large cage they are going in, goes with them.
I would rather them go to someone who knows how they are cared for, so I am posting it here.
A rehoming fee applies.

Please, if you are interested, please e-mail me at wraithpyro@yahoo.com
I will send pics of the chins and the cage.

Q & A / Re: Baby Chin Info!!
« on: May 21, 2010, 08:44:28 PM »
Thank you so so much. it is a bit overwhelming, i just want to make sure it is taken care of to the best it can be.
didnt mean to sound rude, i reread it and i felt as though i was.

i did and i may be getting some toys and feed from you. Im about to get the big metal flying saucer for my big chin cage but i want to add more than a few little toys from petsmart and lava bites.

I was wondering some specifics on baby chin care. i dont want to play with a baby ones life and i cant give it the best care if i hear from this person, "you cant feed them this" and then another person saying, "i feed mine that all the time."

its like no one can agree on what is best for these little guys and it makes me not want to ask advice because no one can simply agree.

so can anyone set the record straight, because my own vet cant agree with some stuff ive heard and there is just too much chaos in the world of chinchillas.

Q & A / Baby Chin Info!!

Alright, in about a month I am getting a baby chin, about 6 to 8 weeks old, I was wondering what all I should get to make sure that it is raised properly and healthy from the very start.

Q & A / Big chin, little chin
« on: March 02, 2010, 05:28:03 PM »
Alrighty. I just got a second chin and I originally thought them both to be males.... I am not so sure anymore...

The first one I got , Pepper, is the same age as the newest one, Dorian..

Pepper is very small and is shaped a little bit different than Dorian.

I was just playing with them in our hallway and Dorian just like hopped onto Pepper and went to town. ::think::

I was wondering if males do this to each other for any normal reason.

Memphis, TN..

I think its like 7 or 8 hrs away. Its been a while since I drove that way

How much you want for the plain white one?

I may be willing to make the drive.. considering I know how to get there pretty easy.

I'm trying to find a young male chin, doesnt have to be super young, 1-3 yrs seems like a nice big window.

my problem?

I dont want a pet store chin, i want one that i know isnt from a mill, and isnt a display animal.

I live in memphis tn(good part :::grins::) and i cant seem to get in contact with anyone around here that may know a breeder or rescue, id prefer a rescue..
