Ooohh, I was just about to post his name, then I just saw Cajmere! That is a sticker....luv the spelling!!! No question he feels like cashmere!!   I actually have my own website and just temp. disabled it for new items, info, etc. Otherwise I can't keep up, as requests, orders, questions keep coming thru...so I take it down when I do updating...anyways my name is Tiffany's Envisage Designs (fancy word for fancy....I do lots of elegant pieces too!!!) that's what's sticking w/ your suggestion!!!  Now I"m stuck!!

Okay..votes please!!

 Cajmere
or Tillamook (which is what I "was" going to post and "had" decided on!)  Tillamook is a place famous for it's creamery's, cheese, and something to do w/ wine/winery? (it's obvious I don't get out much :blush2:) One of my ferret breeder's suggested this and all were in favor. It's cute, catchy and different. However, I like the way "Cajmere" simply looks!

help :-\

General Chat / I need a name, wanna help?
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:32:36 PM »
right now I'm just "lil chinkin"...I need a super cool, different name that suits "me"! So far I hear my humans tallkin about "Blitz" 4 me..."eh, okay, I guess" but not "wow!"  I'm a dude, not a chic. Sorry, "lil chinkin" makes me feel I've been stripped of my manhood  :(  Already in my family are all these names, and I heard mommy remind daddy she tries to stick a "Y" in anywhere she can, let's see, there's: Jupityr, Saturyn, Mercury, Agni-Tejas, Breaker, Xander, Akeles, Storm, Genki, Nim, Silvyr Myst, Renezmae, Xylo, & Kiwi! Mommy says no more fruits or planets, and wants it "different" like "me"...Mommy luvs big ears and bats too if that helps! Please not Dumbo!  It doesn't have to be English. I heard her say Genki is Japanese. But don't give me a Pedro or Paco...I think my new mommy has issues if ya ask me..Ssshhh don't tell ??? They say I'm around 4-5 mos. right now.  I'm not a "beefy boy like a Bruno or Spike either"...I don't bite.  But I'm not your average Joe Shmo either.

Can u help me with my "just me name?"  PS:  I look bigger in the pic. cuz mommy zooms everything! I can fit in mommy's 2 palms, I'm really not as big as I look here! ...but here I am:

General Chat / Re: Hay and Mites?
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:00:41 PM »
started browsing thru everything I marked to see if I could find where I stumbled across what they contributed a mite outbreak to timothy/alphalpha hay and can't find specific location without reading rest of night. I stumbled across that topic by accident when searching mites and parasites!

Anyway, I did find this: Also, sometimes there is discussion about the possibility of getting mites or other "bugs" or parasites from hay. Hay does NOT harbor mites. Mites need a living host to survive.

I just did a search on "mites in timothy hay" and first one to come up was a site around guinea pigs/rabbits, but the hay industry and good qualities, etc. and found the above statement! So, that's good to know!  I do know when I saw that "outbreak blamed on hay" it wasn't anyplace that quickly came to mind...definately not SC (we vac. there every summer, that would have stuck out!)  I want to say another country, but don't hold me to it ::shrug::

If I find the specific region, I'll post it. I thought maybe it was a common thing I didn't know about. I guess not  :)

Thanks for all the friendly hello's!!  Gosh, everyone really thinks "stinky" of ferrets it looks. That's only if you don't stay on top of them, in all honesty.  The only "true kickers" is when an in tact hob or jill is in season...it's hormones talkin' and then it's "Whew!" hurry up and be done.  Petstore kids don't smell at all. Their anal glands are removed when they are early spay/neutered. The intact kids "poof" and it's an eye opener, but it dissapates as quickly at it "poofed out!"  I scoop alll litterboxes 3 times daily, every 2 days dump all and disinfect, once a week their entire room gets stripped, wiped down, cleaned, and all hammies/bedding/blankets replaced w/ clean ones.  It's a job to keep on top, but it's a choice you make  ;)  I do vaccuum my home every single day...so when you say they smell, it's becuase of bedding not being changed regularly as it absorbs the hormone musky smell from their coats/skin, or simply not staying on top of litter.  Unless you have intact kids, and stay on top of them...your house won't smell.

Oh, the biting "fear of their fangs"..if disciplined properly& repetition, no worries! I adopted an awful fear-biter, much bloodshed, won't lie there, I knew what I was getting...took a few months, he's a mama's boy now!!! Sweethearts they are!!

Only (1) ferret is curious to the new chinkin...just wants to sniff the cage out and be overly curious when I allow him over there. "Chinkin"  NO Name yet...feel free to offer "unique suggestions!!!"  ..he just sits there and watches, Doesn't seem bothered at all by this curious critter!

Thank you very much for taking time to answer my concern and so thoroughly!!! Much appreciated ;)

I was truly hoping it was healed attack wounds and hearing that from a reputable source does ease the worry much! I'm still keeping the appt. I have made for him, but I feel a little more rest assured until then. "Thank you!"

General Chat / Hay and Mites?
« on: March 16, 2010, 09:12:54 PM »
Recently read where the hays (timothy/alphalpha) contain mites in some areas.  Does anyone know just how widespread this is or recommend brand(s) that you are most successful with of "mite free".  I keep my hay for my chinkin and rabbit in a feeder and not create a "bed" of it..but that's not 100% preventive.  Is this really "common"?  All the years I have used hays in past for all the rabbits, never had an issue, but that was years ago.  Now that my chinkin is part of equasion and a bit more sensitive, mommy's a bit more concerned ::think::

General Chat / Re: Ferret Hammock
« on: March 16, 2010, 06:41:05 PM »
Jo-Ann's Fabric typically has 40% off sales on fleece! If you have one in your area, definately sign up for emails, coupons, etc. Even when they don't have a sale, every week I'm getting flyers in the mail for 40% off one item which will count towards one yard of fabric :)

For my sturdiness I use (2) panels of fleece. Usually a print with matching solid. Depends on sales. When they have 50% sales, that's when you need to stock up! You can get the solids as cheap as $2-$3/yd!  That's only few times a year.

I sew my own straps in and they are double-thick, stitched around edges, then placed into hammie for attaching. They barely give. Some of my hobs (in tact ferrets weigh as much as 5-6.5lbs and the hammies don't give much.) This works nice for my chinkin who is a feather in comparison!

Metal shower curtain hooks, get a bag at Lowes, HomeDepot, or hardware store for under $2! (typically in hardware aisle, not in bathroom shower area like you'd expect!..go figure ::shrug::

I'm new here, but I have 12 ferrets and I make all their hammies. Anti-pill fleece is only fabric I use. Very sturdy. Metal shower hooks (lock in place) is what I use to hang. Tried my hammies for my new chin and surprisingly he luvs them.  Plus, he likes to hop from hammie to hammie. They close enouph in range he won't miss and fall straight down and still close enouph to his perches to barely step over.  Nice for him and still safe. No sign at all of chewing fleece.

« on: March 16, 2010, 06:15:10 PM »
I'm new here and presently have just the one chin munchkin. I have (3) daughters, (12) ferrets; show most of them, huge part of family and traveling for shows. Finally decided to get a chin, sadly there were no reputable breeders within a practical radius of me, so we opted for this pet store munchkin. In addition to all the homework I have done beforehand as to not "get on a whim!" I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here and their munchkins, and learning as much as possible to keep him here to his fullest and happiest  :)

..just incase the 12 ferrets raised some eyebrows, my chin is safe, and is homed in a "no ferret zone" of home. In addition to him, there is (1) rabbit and (1) leopard gecko. The ferrets have their zones of home, ferret proof areas, and their own room. Yes, they are "predators" and I technically have "prey" to them...but our pets are huge part of our family, we have many rules, and measures for safety and still keep them happy and stress free  :)

No worries...my chin isn't going to become a super sized "mouse dinner" to my ferrets. Not in a jillion years. Never had any mishaps, injuries, or attacks. They are never in contact with each other.

Health / Healing Attack Wounds, Fungus, Mites; Input?
« on: March 16, 2010, 04:59:31 PM »
Have appt. w/ my exot. spec. vet next Wed., but does anyone have any pics for reference I could refer to or link, or personal input to see what I may be dealing with?  My 4-5 mo. old male, (petstore, no breeders anywhere near my area that I could find) has clusters of scabs down his back. No bald patches. His ears have healed "slits/gaps", would this be from attacks from cagemate at wholesale breeder? Or mite issue?  (he was housed alone for 4 days only at petstore.) I gently removed just (1) of the scabs, very easily, it's thick, hard, and it "crumbles" if pressed hard w/ nail. Only down back in tiny clusters. Whitish underneath. No pink or red skin. Nothing black. Sound like fungus, ringworm, mange mites, or healed attack wounds from cagemate at wholesale breeder prior to shipping?? Or, sound like really dry skin?? Who knows what the munchkin was exposed to climate wise beforehand ...sadly.   I'm still having him checked regardless "incase" it's fungus/ringworm, I can't have that circulating in my home with all my other exotics. This is my only chin though.  Thanks for any input, advice, photos anyone can offer as reference, comparison.
