Q & A / Re: Why a chinchilla?
« on: March 23, 2010, 08:50:07 PM »
I don't know, either! My boyfriend is DEAD SET on getting this chinchilla, and I really don't understand why. I don't think he does either, I think he just likes how cute they are.  :::(((

As I've been doing some research on them I've come to some conclusions on other reasons people may like them. They're very curious little creatures, and they like to jump around a lot and seem very energetic. I know having a feisty little critter to come home to after work may be something many people would enjoy. :3

Unfortunately this means I may not get the snake I want for a long while (or ever, since he doesn't seem to like snakes ): ) but I think I can at least like the chinchilla too. They ARE super cute. haha

That's really good, though. We wanna get our chin a wheel, but I was worried that the biggest one advertised on petsmart's website still wouldn't be big enough for him... I think pricey might be worth it, and I'll definitely have to bookmark that page. :3

Yeah, I don't understand what's so frightening to people about these animals. They're tiny, really, chill. :/

Q & A / Chinchilla Maturation Process
« on: March 20, 2010, 06:33:51 PM »
How young are they (generally) when you buy them as kits from a breeder and how long does it take them to be adults? Also, about how small are they when you first get one?

That's an awesome idea, as I was looking at ledges on petsmart's website. :D

Well, I know my friend had rats and chinchillas with their cages next to one another and, as far as I know, it worked out just fine. I only visited once, but she didn't mention anything about poor relations between the related parties.

You didn't take it to the pet immeadiately? You're lucky your poor judgment didn't cost the dog its life. -_-;

I chose spiders given how small and poisonous they can be compared to snakes and scorpions. However, I don't mind any of those animals. In fact, I love snakes and I don't see how anyone can disagree that mice are freaking adorable. lol

A picture of the product you're selling would probably help you actually sell it.

"Monthly ladies' thing"? Are you freakin serious? And I doubt they would, just like other animals do not.

Cages / Choosing the right cage

I have two choices right now that I want to consider for the chinchilla I'll be purchasing in the future. However, I wanted some advice from current chin owners.

Sooo... if you know anything about these cages, please let me know. I think someone mentioned a small animal--a baby hamster or something--being able to slip out of the bars on the six level (the first) cage, for example. Also, it was said that cages with bar floors could hurt a chin's little feet. Would bars on ramps do the same, or would it not matter since they aren't standing on them all day? Any other comments/advice would be great, I think I picked out two great cages but there may be something even better out there.

Thank you. :3

Edit: Just to be clear, this will be for just one chin.
