  ok that last post was just funny!!

sorry i haven't been on in a while, but thought i better come back to update you guys. she is still as nasty as ever and is now biting too. she is actually quite vicious: she'll lunge at the cage, make a quacking/barking sound, and she just seems like she wants to rip me apart with those little t-rex arms of hers    Seriously though, it's getting pretty bad.

I wish I could just prepare for a pee storm everytime, but my carpet would get ruined, my landlord would be really angry with me, and nobody would want to come visit anymore because my house smells like pee all the time!

I was thinking about selling her to somebody that doesn't have kids or other animals. Her behaviour is so strange, she used to be a sweet little girl, she would cuddle up to my hands all the time. Now she's vicious. She reminds me of a tasmanian devil actually lol...

I miss my sweet little girl but I don't know what else to do. It almost seems like she lost her mind

Ok, thanks! I know that for the females it's closer to the anus, and the males there is a space between the anus, but I could never figure that organ out until now. Thank you !

Well, today all I did was put my hand in front of her cage and she sprayed me again. She didn't even warn me this time, she just drenched my hand with urine. This is absolutely disgusting because, as I mentioned before, my whole house smells like urine. I am seriously considering selling her. I don't like the idea of keeping an animal that pisses on me (sorry for the language but I am quite annoyed right now).

I've given her space, I backed off when she warned me. I've had her for 3 years and she just hates us now for some reason.

She is 3 now and hasn't started spaying until the last year. She does make very nasty sounds and I guess I haven't clued in until now to back away. I just wonder why she is like this and if it will stop. She actually just sprayed my son in the face today, and all he was doing was petting her. I just asked him if she was doing anything to let him know she didn't want this, and he said she was chattering her teeth.

Nothing traumatic has happened to her at all. She has always been safe, has never been around big animals. No one has been mean to her in anyway, we are always affectionate to her and try to cuddle with her, talk softly to her.

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I have always wondered what that skin flap was right by the chinchilla's anus. It is seen in both males and females. For the longest time, I thought it was a penis until I've had female chinchillas and noticed they have them too.

Hi all.

On April 18th, my female chinchilla, Goodie, had her third litter and I ended up keeping her daughter and her. She has become a very unpleasant pet to have around: she sprays me and my son a lot, and there's also urine streaked all over my walls as well. She didn't start this behaviour until very recently and I'm wondering if it's a phase she'll grow out of or can I expect her to do this for the rest of her life?

I got her when she was 4 months old, and while it's true she was never an affectionate chinchilla (though sometimes she would cuddle up to my hand), she had never sprayed us until now. I am trying to decide if I will keep her or not. I just may keep her little daughter, but right now I"m not 100% sure. I know maybe I sound mean, I really am not a mean owner I am just tired of my son and I getting urinated on. She has become so moody, sometimes I can't even walk by her cage without her flipping out and spraying. My house smells like urine all the time and it's incredibly embarrassing.

What do you guys think?

Oh, and also, Coal and Goodie are happily sharing a cage again! I felt so bad for him; he was actually quite depressed and lost weight when they were separated, and he would've taken her back with open arms but she was violent with him! So I put their cages side by side and slowly re-introduced them again. I am very happy that it worked because now Coal is back to his chubby self again, happy as a clam!

Awww, I'm so sorry what happened to your poor baby, that must have been devastating for you! How horrible. I didn't trust the dad with the baby, because the reason I ended up with him in the first place is because he got into a horrible fight with another male chinchilla and he took a big chunk out of the other boy's head    So, Coal's owner was happy to hear that I had a female and Coal and Goodie have gotten along so well! In fact, she's the boss of the cage (even though she's literally half his size)...that is, until the bath gets put in their cage, and then he really bullies her lol  I did end up keeping the 3 of them in their own separate cages though. And the baby is now living at my sister's house, and is being spoiled rotten, which is very nice to see    He is doing wonderful, and it's nice that we get to visit him still.

Health / Weird stuff in urine

Hey everyone. My male, Coal, has had problems with his urine before, but I figured it was just a calcium crystal that he eventually passed. The vet I took him to confirmed this last summer. Today I came home and saw that there were puddles of urine all along the shelf and where there were dried puddles of urine, there was a white powder substance there. Has anyone ever seen this? He appears normal otherwise, except that he grits his teeth noisily. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi everyone.

My little male just turned 8 weeks today and I separted him from Mom yesterday. I caught him mounting his mom and so, I separated them...don't need any little inbreds running around 

I put the baby in with the dad and the dad tried to make love to the baby... Then I tried putting Mom and Dad back together, but Mom thrashed Dad, so needless to say, EVERYBODY is in their own separate cages! It was pretty chaotic last night 

So I guess my question is, when is a good time for the baby to go to his new home? Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone, sorry it took so long to reply! I would love to post a picture of the baby, but I can't figure out how to...I'm sure I will one of these days.

The baby is doing wonderful! He's so fat and cute    He'll be 7 weeks old tomorrow and I already have a really good home for him to go to. Goodie turned out to be a fabulous mother, but I think she's ready to say good-bye very soon, as Tut harrasses her non-stop LOL

Hey everyone, just thought I'd share the great news with you, seeing as the last time I was on here was to announce some horrifying news (http://www.chinchillaclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,2649.0/topicseen.html).

Well, Goodie delivered her baby successfully yesterday morning, and he is already a fiesty little thing   

He is nursing and is very active but I noticed today there was a long brown string coming out of his anus. Is this normal? He didn't have this yesterday? Just wondering if this is regular "baby poop" or if something is wrong with him?

PS: We named him King Tut lol

Thanks. Yes, he is alone in his cage, I separated them so that my female won't get pregnant right now. Whenever I open up his cage he does come to me, but only to try to escape. It almost seems like he hates me, I've never had such a grouchy chin before.

General Chat / How do I bond with my aggressive male?

I bought my male not quite a year ago and when I first met him, he was very docile and let me hold him. I bought him as a companion for my female, Goodie. When I try to put my hand up to him while he's in the cage, he will lash out at me (not all the time, but a fair amount of the time) and bite me. Not so hard where there's blood, but it does hurt. I am wondering why he is like this? He does have a past of being aggressive (with another male chinchilla, and that's why the lady sold him to me). I've been making more of an effort to bond with him by taking him out of his cage and letting him sit on my shoulder for a bit while I walk around my house. I even stood on my deck once with him when it was nice outside, and he was so calm in my arms, so sometimes he can be a real sweetheart.
