Q & A / Re: Rose petals
« on: September 03, 2006, 12:39:24 AM »
I give pink rose buds as a treat, those that you find in Vitakraft cocktail but fresher. They're very high in Vit C and help with the immune system (human and animals)

Thank God it was a commercial; I wouldn't take my breakfast cereal in peace, knowing my babies are "spinning" on top.   ::scaredspeachless::

Q & A / Re: Chin Food
« on: August 31, 2006, 03:07:15 PM »
I don't know which to vote honestly... I've been mixing Mazuri and APD Timmy for their feed for 6 years, simply because Mazuri is alfafla-based and Timmy being timothy-based and my chinnies produce solid poops.  ::shrug::

It was cute and my heart nearly popped out seeing the 4 chins high on top of the rotating fan.   ::Hairraising::

if one is going to breed it should be expected that these things may happen from time to time

This is one of the reasons why I stopped breeding.  :::(((

Q & A / Re: Chin chewed himself
« on: August 30, 2006, 11:00:42 PM »
I'm dreadfully sorry to hear about Timmy's tragedy but glad to know Lucy's coping well, hopefully you too.  :hugs:

Like what Jamie and JoAnn said, you need a knowledgeable and hands-on experience vet to perform any surgery on a chin, but from your post, it doesn't appeared to me it was your vet's fault.
Half of my males are neutered, all were successful but one came down with an infection. From my vet's advise on neutering and/or any kind of op, either sew the stitches inside or put on an Elizabethan collar to prevent the chin from chewing/licking, best to do both to err on the safe side.  :)

Health / Re: Hair Ring
« on: August 30, 2006, 09:45:37 PM »
I clearly remember the very first time I do a hair-ring check, my hubby who was then my boyfriend was helping me hold the chin screamed: "Stop shaking, you're gonna break it!"   rofl
I don't wait to see signs, it's been a routine for many years- every fortnight after weighing them and mind you, my all-boys group tend to get them often than those with females.

Hi chinchillylvr  ::wave::  Welcome to Chinchillaclub.

Your parents gave you Maxie for birthday present? Wow! They must've love you lots.  :)

Will your parents be mad if you'd to ask them for help to get some decent chinchilla pellets? It's not expensive at all and you only have one chin, I'm sure your parents would want to do anything to make you happy.  ;) I believe you have timothy hay since you have horses? It's VERY good for chinchillas because it helps them with their digestive system while wearing down their teeth  ::nod::

Rabbits can carry Pasteurella (it naturally resides in cat saliva) and is transmissable when come in contact with chins and guinea pigs.

Your terminology ("escaped") concerns me ... has she been diagnosed with Alzheimer's?

We were given instruction by the doc not to let her out of the house for the first 3 weeks in case of a relapse. We did explained to her and she "understood" but somehow she slipped out of the house without telling anyone. A check has been scheduled for August 2, from there we might be able to know if it's Alzheimer's or just the meds.

It almost sounds as if you've given up.  Please, don't.

Of course I haven't given up on her, she's my mom and I'm all she's got. We just hired a day-nurse for her as most of us are working. We even got a qualified therapist to play brain games with her and we're planning on organizing fun activities for her and the old folks in our neighborhood.  :)

Posting this for Karen

Thanks JoAnn for helping me post this pic.  :)  Jamie~ I hope you'd consider doing something about programming the resizing automatically, it'll save us lots of time.

Fluffball~ WOW!! Your cage is so impressive, I LOVE it!.....*drooling*...

I engaged a contractor to build this cage some 6 years ago, it's still in a very good condition due to it being stainless, to bring it out for wash can be quite a headache though. Hubby agreed to build one and it's been 4 years.....

(Hi Karen ... got it a little larger and added it to this one for you.  ::wave:: Jo Ann)
