Q & A / Re: Wheel & run around ball help.
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:10:15 PM »
Thanks for all the help everyone! =] This site has been a lifesaver, it's great being able to talk to so many experienced chin owners!!
I bought her the flying saucer and she just sits on it and stares at me. She refuses to run on it, lol. So I'll keep looking for a good wheel.
So glad I didn't buy a ball, I hadn't realized how many ways they could get hurt in them.

Q & A / Wheel & run around ball help.
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:16:50 PM »
I've bought Penelope 4 different wheels (and the last one my fiance even rigged an extra support between the back and the cage) and she breaks every single one. I don't know if they're just cheap plastic, or if it's because she runs so hard .. or maybe she's just fat  :::grins::  but I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good wheel?
& Does anyone use the run around balls, like for hamsters? Are they safe for short periods of time and do they like them? One website said they'd suffocate and break their spine so I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with them.
Thanks for any help!   :)

Q & A / Re: Vegetables and treats?
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:41:21 PM »
Thanks for all the information. Glad I asked before I gave them some, because I must have found a hundred websites that said they love vegetables!  I buy them all the treats from petsmart like the apple sticks and yogurt things, crackers and raisins, I was just looking for something new and different for them! Guess I'll try the herbs that someone suggested! =]

Q & A / Vegetables and treats?
« on: October 22, 2010, 03:18:35 PM »
I've been looking online for awhile and half the websites say yes half say no, so I'm wondering ... what kind of vegetables are ok as treats? I made a big salad for dinner, so can they have the ends off like the green pepper, carrots and cucumber or any lettuce? And we saved all the seeds out of the pumpkins we carved ... if I dry them out or bake them are they safe for occasional treats?
Thank you so much!

General Chat / Re: Help determining color?

Thank you! Hmm I just looked that up and that's a possibility, she does have white on her tail and the darker ears but I just wonder if she's too dark, she's more silver than white.  Thanks for answering though, i will keep looking. =]

I've been to a million websites looking at pictures and I just can't decide what colors my chins are. I think Bella looks like a standard gray but am just stumped about Penelope (the light silvery one.) Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Well it's healing up well, looks a lot better. They've both been so depressed because we seperated them, so I tried to put Bella back in with her yesterday, and Bella jumped on her and attacked her. It was awful. So I guess that's where the wound came from...   so now I guess they have to stay seperated.

vet visit went well. it is a wound. she said it's probably from something in the cage but we can't find anywhere she could have hurt herself that bad. she's on 3 medications, which I hope are easily administered ... if its anything like giving medicine to a cat, it will be interesting =]

thank you so much for the information. Here's the best picture I could get. I'm just really not sure, i'm not convinced that it looks like a fungus but I don't know where she could have injured herself that bad.

My two chinchillas have been healthy, get along great & I haven't had any problems with them. then yesterday I went to take one out of the cage and noticed there's a big bald spot on the base of her tail and its red and scabbed and just looks awful. I made an appointment with the vet but the soonest I could get in is monday morning. It's been getting worse though, and I don't know what it could be. I've been doing research but can't find any pictures that look even close to this. I have a few pictures I can try to upload. Just wondering if anyone might know what it is and what I might be able to do help her until she gets to the vet.  :-\
Thank you.
